Mogami GOLD STAGE-30 30 Ft XLR Microphone Cable $144.95
Bundle total: $583.95

The Shure KSM8/B is a handheld dynamic vocal microphone designed for live sound, studio vocal recording, broadcasting, and presentations. Its cardioid pickup pattern focuses on the performer while helping reduce unwanted sound arriving from the sides and rear. The black-finish KSM8/B is suited to singers and speakers who want a wired XLR microphone with a consistent vocal character.

The KSM8 is built around Shure's Dualdyne cartridge, which uses two ultra-thin diaphragms: one active and one passive. Its reverse-airflow design is engineered to reduce the proximity effect commonly associated with close vocal use. This helps keep low-frequency response more controlled as the user changes distance from the microphone.

With a 40 Hz to 16 kHz frequency response and a smooth midrange and high-frequency presentation, the KSM8 is intended to capture detailed vocals without relying on a pronounced presence peak. The cardioid pattern and linear off-axis response can help preserve a more natural sound when other stage or room sources enter the microphone. It is a practical choice where vocal clarity and consistent microphone technique matter.

A neodymium magnet in aerospace-grade SoftMag material supports the microphone's output level, while the internal pneumatic shock mount helps reduce handling noise. Shure's Diaphragm Stabilization System is integrated to help stabilize the active diaphragm against plosives and mechanical impact. These engineering elements support regular handheld use in performance and production environments.

The KSM8/B connects through a standard three-pin male XLR output and can be used with a mixer, microphone preamp, stage snake, or compatible audio interface. It can serve as a step up for a vocal channel that needs more controlled proximity effect and a neutral response. The included stand adapter and thread adapter also make it ready for common microphone stands.

Key Features

  • Dualdyne Cartridge: Two diaphragms and reverse airflow help control proximity effect during close or changing vocal use.
  • Cardioid Pattern: Focuses pickup toward the performer while reducing off-axis sound.
  • Smooth Vocal Response: Delivers a 40 Hz to 16 kHz response with controlled low end and neutral upper frequencies.
  • Pneumatic Shock Mount: Internal isolation helps reduce handling noise without sacrificing low-frequency response.
  • Diaphragm Stabilization System: Helps protect and stabilize the active diaphragm from plosives and mechanical movement.
  • Protective Grille: Hardened carbon-steel grille and hydrophobic fabric help resist dents, moisture, wind, and plosives.

Design & Installation

The KSM8/B combines a die-cast aluminum housing with a black painted finish, a hardened carbon-steel grille, and hydrophobic woven grille lining. Its handheld body measures 48.3 mm in diameter by 188 mm long and weighs 330 g. The grille is designed for dent resistance and its lining is permanently attached.

Connect the microphone's male three-pin XLR connector to a compatible microphone input using a standard XLR microphone cable. For stand use, install the included A25E Soft Flex swivel stand adapter and use the included 5/8-inch to 3/8-inch threaded adapter when needed. The supplied zippered carrying case provides storage and transport protection.
