The Shure Nexadyne 6 NXN6 is a dynamic microphone made specifically for close-miking toms and snare drums in live-performance and recording setups. Its supercardioid pickup pattern helps focus on the intended drum while reducing pickup from nearby cymbals, drums, and stage monitors. It is a practical choice for drummers, live-sound engineers, and studios building a more controlled drum-miking setup.

The microphone is voiced to capture drum attack, body, and resonance with clear high-frequency stick definition, a transparent midrange, and full low-end response. This character helps preserve the individual voice of a snare or tom without relying on excessive corrective equalization. Placement can be adjusted to favor more attack or more resonance.

At the center of the NXN6 is Shure Revonic dual-engine transducer technology. Its two calibrated dynamic transducers work together to control the polar pattern and reduce mechanical vibration. The result is a focused signal designed to make isolation easier when several microphones share the same drum kit.

The Nexadyne 6 uses a fixed-angle form factor and includes the A6D drum mount for direct rim mounting. This arrangement is designed to help maintain microphone placement through drum vibration while keeping setup and teardown straightforward. The mount can be clipped onto the rim from either direction.

With a standard three-pin male XLR output, the NXN6 connects to compatible microphone inputs on mixers, audio interfaces, stage boxes, and microphone preamps. Its 50 Hz to 16 kHz frequency response and 335-ohm output impedance make it suitable for professional drum-miking systems. A zipper pouch is included for transport and storage.

Key Features

  • Tom And Snare Voicing: Designed to capture the attack, body, and resonance of toms and snare drums.
  • Supercardioid Pattern: Helps reject cymbal wash, adjacent drums, and stage-monitor spill.
  • Revonic Dual-Engine Design: Uses two calibrated transducers to improve isolation and reduce mechanical vibration.
  • Fixed-Angle Body: Helps reduce placement drift caused by drum vibration during performance.
  • A6D Drum Mount Included: Provides direct rim mounting for fast drum-kit setup and teardown.
  • Professional XLR Connection: Connects to standard balanced microphone inputs on compatible audio equipment.

Design & Installation

The NXN6 has a die-cast zinc housing with a black painted finish and weighs 246 g. Its compact drum-focused design combines the microphone body with a fixed-angle mounting approach intended for stable positioning on a drum rim. The included A6D mount and zipper pouch support routine live-performance, rehearsal, and recording use.

Attach the A6D drum mount to the drum rim, then angle the microphone toward the drum head and tighten the mount securely. Aim toward the center of the head for more attack, or toward the rim for more resonance, then connect the male XLR output to a compatible microphone input. Shure recommends a preamplifier input impedance of at least 1,000 ohms for proper signal transfer.
