sE Electronics sE8 Omni Capsule(P) Matched Pair

The sE Electronics sE8 Omni Capsule(P) is a factory-matched pair of omnidirectional replacement capsules for owners of a pair of sE8 cardioid small-diaphragm condenser microphones. It changes the pickup pattern of compatible sE8 microphones from cardioid to omnidirectional without requiring a separate pair of complete microphones. The package is intended for recording setups that need a more open, natural capture of an instrument, ensemble, room, or performance space.

These capsules are suited to stereo recording duties such as orchestral sections, choirs, piano, percussion, cymbals, room miking, and ambient capture. Their omnidirectional pattern is designed to collect sound from around the microphone rather than concentrating primarily on the front. That makes them useful when maintaining a natural sense of space and consistent off-axis response is important.

Each capsule is hand-crafted and individually tuned by sE Electronics. The true-condenser design uses an ultra-thin gold-sputtered diaphragm and a precision electrode arrangement intended to support linear, balanced response and detailed transient reproduction. As a factory-matched pair, the two capsules are selected for close sensitivity and frequency-response consistency for stereo work.

The sE8 Omni Capsule(P) is an upgrade component rather than a self-contained microphone pair. It does not include the sE8 amplifier bases, XLR outputs, or microphone bodies needed for operation. Once installed on compatible sE8 preamp bases, the system retains the host microphone's switchable low-cut filters and attenuation pads.

For sE8 cardioid-pair owners, these capsules provide a practical way to add an omnidirectional option while keeping the same microphone platform. Installation is performed by removing the existing capsule and threading the Omni capsule onto the sE8 preamplifier base. A compatible XLR microphone chain with 48V phantom power is required after the capsules are mounted to the microphone bases.

Design & Installation

The sE8 Omni Capsule(P) uses the same compact sE8-form-factor concept as the compatible microphone system. Each capsule is a hand-crafted true-condenser component with an ultra-thin gold-sputtered diaphragm. The capsule-only assembly measures 23 mm in diameter, is approximately 21.5 mm long, and weighs 26 g.

These are replacement capsules for an existing pair of sE8 cardioid microphones and are not usable by themselves. Remove the installed sE8 capsule by turning it counterclockwise, place the Omni capsule on the preamp base, and turn clockwise until snug without over-tightening. For use, connect the completed microphones to XLR microphone inputs that provide 48V phantom power; use the pair for stereo arrays, room capture, ensemble recording, or other applications that benefit from omnidirectional pickup.
