The RØDE PODMICUSBW PodMic USB is a white dynamic broadcast microphone made for podcasting, streaming, voice-over work, gaming, and other speech-focused recording. It provides both analog XLR and digital USB-C connections, allowing it to work in a traditional audio setup or directly with a computer or compatible mobile device. This dual-connect approach helps users move between simple desktop recording and more expanded audio systems without changing microphones.

Its end-address cardioid design is intended to focus on the speaker in front of the microphone while reducing pickup from the sides and rear. The dynamic capsule is suited to close-mic voice recording, with RØDE recommending placement about 5 to 10 cm from the mouth. Its stated 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range and high maximum SPL rating support clear spoken-word capture in a variety of recording environments.

For USB recording, the PodMic USB includes RØDE's Revolution Preamp and onboard APHEX processing. Available processing includes a high-pass filter, noise gate, compressor, Aural Exciter, and Big Bottom controls through compatible RØDE software. This gives users a direct-recording path with adjustable vocal processing without requiring a separate hardware processor.

A built-in 3.5mm headphone output supports zero-latency monitoring when the microphone is connected by USB. The onboard headphone volume control lets the user adjust monitoring level directly from the microphone. This is useful for checking voice level and audio quality while recording or streaming.

The PODMICUSBW can connect by XLR to an audio interface, mixer, or other analog audio equipment, or by USB-C for plug-and-play digital use. Its integrated swing mount supports practical positioning on a microphone stand or studio arm. The included USB-C cable and pop filter help establish a complete basic USB recording setup, while the XLR output provides an upgrade path into a larger production system.

Key Features

  • Dual XLR And USB-C Outputs: Connects to mixers, interfaces, computers, and compatible mobile devices.
  • Dynamic Cardioid Capsule: Prioritizes close speech capture while reducing surrounding sound pickup.
  • APHEX DSP Processing: Provides adjustable vocal processing through compatible RØDE software.
  • Zero-Latency Headphone Monitoring: Monitor USB recordings through the integrated 3.5mm output.
  • Integrated Pop And Shock Protection: Helps reduce plosives, vibration, and handling-related noise.
  • All-Metal Construction: Provides a durable housing for regular studio or desktop use.

Design & Installation

The PodMic USB uses a robust all-metal body with a white finish, integrated swing mount, internal shock mount, and internal pop filter. A removable external pop filter is included for additional plosive control. The microphone weighs 900 g and measures 172 mm long, 107 mm wide, and 62 mm high.

Mount the integrated swing mount to a compatible microphone stand or studio arm using its 5/8-inch or 3/8-inch thread support, then angle the microphone toward the speaker. For direct recording, connect the supplied SC29 USB-C cable to a USB-C-equipped computer or compatible device and select the PodMic USB as the input source. For an analog setup, connect its 3-pin XLR output to a mixer or audio interface, and disable phantom power on the connected input.
