The Mackie EM-USB is a USB condenser microphone designed to record directly to a computer without requiring a separate audio interface. It provides a straightforward recording solution for home studios, podcasts, livestreams, video calls, and online content creation. USB-C connectivity and onboard controls keep the setup focused and uncluttered.

A cardioid, unidirectional pickup pattern concentrates on sound in front of the microphone while helping reduce pickup from the sides and rear. This makes the EM-USB well suited to single-person voice recording, spoken-word work, and close-miked musical ideas. Its 14 mm condenser capsule covers a 30 Hz to 18 kHz frequency response.

Built-in gain control lets users adjust microphone input sensitivity at the mic, helping match its output to a computer or recording application. A dedicated mute switch turns off the microphone signal while computer playback can still be heard through connected headphones. The power and mute LED gives a clear visual indication of operating status.

The integrated headphone output supports direct monitoring and computer playback through stereo headphones with a 1/8-inch connector. Its independent headphone level control makes it easier to set a comfortable listening level without adjusting the computer's main output. With up to 400 mW of stereo output power, the EM-USB combines microphone and monitoring functions in one desktop-friendly device.

The EM-USB fits naturally into a compact creator setup, connecting to a computer through the included USB-C-to-USB-A cable. A tripod stand and mic clip are included for immediate desktop placement, while the mic clip can also support compatible stand or boom-mount use. Waveform OEM recording software and the DAW Essentials plugin bundle are included for users building a recording workflow.

Design & Installation

The EM-USB uses a compact, rugged microphone body intended for regular desktop and portable recording use. Its controls and connections are placed on the microphone itself, including the USB-C port, headphone jack, headphone level knob, gain knob, mute switch, and status LED. The microphone measures 7.1 inches high by 1.8 inches wide and weighs 0.87 lb.

For setup, connect the included USB-C end of the cable to the microphone and the USB-A end directly to an available computer USB port. Connect stereo headphones with a 1/8-inch plug for monitoring, then select the EM-USB as the computer's input and output device when needed. Use the included tripod stand for desktop recording, or use the supplied mic clip with a compatible microphone stand or boom.
