RØDE NTG2 Dual-Powered Shotgun Microphone

The RØDE NTG2 is a condenser shotgun microphone designed for focused audio capture in film, video, broadcast, voice-over, and streaming setups. Its supercardioid pickup pattern helps prioritize sound arriving from the front while reducing pickup from the sides. This makes it a practical choice when dialogue or a specific sound source needs greater presence in a busy recording environment.

Dual-power operation gives the NTG2 flexibility between studio and field use. It can run from 48V P48 phantom power supplied by a compatible camera, mixer, recorder, or audio interface, or from an internal 1.5V AA battery. Battery operation is useful when the connected device does not provide phantom power.

The microphone offers a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range, low-noise circuitry, and an 18dBA equivalent-noise specification. Its sound is intended to remain clear and natural for spoken-word recording, location production, and general broadcast use. A 76dB signal-to-noise ratio and 113dB dynamic range support clean capture across a range of source levels.

A switchable 80Hz high-pass filter helps reduce unwanted low-frequency content such as handling vibration, distant traffic, HVAC rumble, or wind-related noise. The filter is useful when low bass is not part of the desired source, though it also changes tonal balance. The recessed filter switch is designed to help prevent accidental changes during use.

The NTG2 connects through a balanced 3-pin XLR output, making it suited to professional audio paths and compatible XLR-equipped recording devices. Its machined aluminum body is lightweight enough for camera mounting, boom use, or stand mounting. It includes a microphone holder, foam windshield, and zip pouch, with additional wind protection and mounting accessories available separately for more demanding applications.

The NTG2 has a body machined from high-grade aluminum and finished with hard-wearing epoxy paint. Its 22mm diameter and 161g net weight help keep it manageable for camera, stand, and boom-based use. Side slots are part of the microphone's acoustic design and should remain unobstructed to preserve its directional response.

Connect the microphone's balanced 3-pin XLR output to a compatible camera, mixer, recorder, or audio interface. Use P48 phantom power when available, or install a 1.5V alkaline AA battery by opening the base and following the indicated polarity. The included RM5 holder mounts to compatible 3/8-inch or 5/8-inch threaded stands; use the included foam windshield outdoors in light wind and consider specialized wind protection for heavier wind.
