Rockford Fosgate R2-1200X1 1200-Watt Mono Amplifier
$449.99
The Rockford Fosgate Power T2S1-16 is a 16-inch single-voice-coil subwoofer built for high-output car audio systems. Its 1-ohm nominal impedance is intended for systems using amplification designed to operate at a 1-ohm load. With 2,500 watts RMS power handling, it is suited to installations where enclosure space, electrical capacity, and amplifier matching have been planned accordingly.
This subwoofer is designed to add substantial low-frequency output while maintaining controlled cone movement. The 21-250 Hz frequency-response specification covers the bass range typically assigned to a dedicated subwoofer channel. Its 89 dB sensitivity rating and large 1,034 cm² cone area support use in systems focused on deep bass reproduction.
A three-layer glass-fiber, Aramid-honeycomb, and glass-fiber cone provides a rigid moving surface, while the aluminum dustcap complements the assembly. The injection-molded foam surround uses Rockford Fosgate's VAST attachment design to maximize effective cone area. Dual progressive Nomex spiders support the cone assembly through its rated 34 mm linear excursion.
The T2S1-16 uses a single-layer, edge-wound aluminum 4-inch voice coil and a triple-stack segmented ferrite motor structure. Its die-cast aluminum frame incorporates heat-sink fins, and the vented pole piece supports thermal management. An integrated aluminum heat-sinking shorting ring is also part of the motor design.
This is a component subwoofer and requires a separately selected enclosure and amplifier. Rockford Fosgate publishes both sealed and vented enclosure recommendations for the 16-inch T2 platform. It is a practical fit for custom installations with sufficient mounting depth, baffle strength, and cargo-area space.
Key Features
- 2,500-Watt RMS Rating: Supports use with a properly matched high-power mono amplifier.
- Single 1-Ohm Voice Coil: Provides a straightforward 1-ohm nominal load for compatible amplification.
- Three-Layer Composite Cone: Combines glass fiber and Aramid honeycomb for a rigid cone structure.
- VAST Foam Surround: Increases effective radiating area while supporting cone travel.
- Dual Nomex Spiders: Help guide the cone assembly during high-excursion operation.
- Triple-Stack Ferrite Motor: Works with the large voice coil and integrated thermal-management features.
Design & Installation
The T2S1-16 uses an aluminum die-cast frame with integrated heat-sink fins, a detachable die-cast aluminum trim ring, and an aluminum dustcap. Its 4-inch edge-wound aluminum voice coil, vented pole piece, and integrated aluminum heat-sinking shorting ring are designed as part of a high-power motor assembly. The subwoofer is CTA/CEA-2031 compliant and Klippel verified.
Allow for a 15.04-inch cutout, 10.47 inches of mounting depth, and the subwoofer's 0.29 cu. ft. displacement when designing the enclosure. Use its 8 AWG slot-loaded terminals with appropriately sized speaker cable, and pair it with an amplifier stable at the intended load. For the published vented enclosure, use a subsonic filter; Rockford Fosgate also recommends an active 80-100 Hz low-pass crossover at 12 dB/octave for subwoofer use.

What amplifier is needed for the T2S1-16?
Use a mono amplifier that is stable at a 1-ohm load and is selected to suit the subwoofer's 2,500-watt RMS rating. Proper gain setting, wiring, and vehicle electrical capacity are important in a system at this power level.
Is this a dual-voice-coil subwoofer?
No. The T2S1-16 is a single-voice-coil, 1-ohm subwoofer. A single unit presents a 1-ohm nominal impedance.
What enclosure size does Rockford Fosgate recommend?
The optimum sealed recommendation is 2.40 cu. ft. total internal volume, with a 2.11 cu. ft. net internal volume before woofer displacement. The high-output vented recommendation is 5.5 cu. ft. total internal volume, tuned to 35 Hz.
Will this fit in my vehicle?
Confirm a 15.04-inch mounting cutout and 10.47-inch mounting depth, plus adequate clearance for the 17.79-inch overall diameter. The driver itself displaces 0.29 cu. ft., and the required enclosure is large, so custom-fit planning is recommended.
What is included in the box?
The carton contents include the T2 subwoofer with trim ring, 12 mounting screws, four trim-ring screws, a socket-head driver bit, and an installation and operation manual. An enclosure, amplifier, wiring, and grille are not listed among the included items.
Should I use a sealed or ported enclosure?
A sealed enclosure is the more compact option and is described by the manufacturer as offering linear response with no port noise. A vented enclosure is designed for higher average output; use a subsonic or infrasonic filter with a vented design.
