The Ortofon OM-PRO S SINGLE is a DJ cartridge for turntables using a half-inch cartridge mount. This cartridge is intended for DJs building a practical vinyl playback setup without moving to a specialized application-specific stylus profile. With a recommended 4 g tracking force, it is designed for use with tonearms that can be properly balanced and adjusted for DJ playback.

The OM Pro S produces a 5 mV output at 1 kHz and 5 cm/sec, making it appropriate for standard phono-stage connections designed for magnetic cartridges. Its specified frequency response is 20 Hz to 18 kHz within ±2 dB. Channel separation is rated at 20 dB at 1 kHz, supporting stereo vinyl playback through a compatible phono system.

A spherical stylus and solid cantilever are central to the OM Pro S design. Ortofon specifies 70 μm tracking ability at 315 Hz using the recommended tracking force. The cartridge also uses a relatively high recommended tracking-force setting for stable operation in hands-on DJ applications.

The OM Pro S fits a turntable system through a compatible headshell or tonearm with a half-inch mount, followed by a phono preamp or phono input in the audio chain. Its 5 g cartridge weight should be considered along with headshell weight and tonearm counterweight range. When the stylus reaches the end of its service life, the specified replacement is the Ortofon Stylus PRO S.

Design & Installation

The OM Pro S uses a spherical diamond stylus and a solid cantilever intended for demanding turntable activity. Its stylus assembly is replaceable, allowing the cartridge body to remain in service when a Stylus PRO S replacement is needed.

Mount the cartridge to a compatible half-inch headshell or tonearm using suitable mounting hardware, then connect the headshell leads according to the turntable's wiring convention. Balance the tonearm and set tracking force within the specified 3 to 5 g range, with 4 g recommended by Ortofon. Use it with a phono input or phono preamp providing a 47 kΩ load resistance and suitable capacitance within the stated 200 to 600 pF range.
