Ortofon OM PRO S DJ Cartridge

The Ortofon OM PRO S is a single DJ phono cartridge designed for turntables using a standard half-inch headshell mount. It provides a practical replacement or starting point for DJs who need a cartridge suited to cueing, mixing, and general vinyl playback. Its 5 mV output is intended for use with standard moving-magnet phono inputs.

This cartridge is aimed at new and working DJs who want dependable operation without moving into a specialized scratch or high-output model. The spherical diamond stylus is selected for durable, straightforward tracking in active turntable use. Its performance profile makes it suitable for general-purpose DJ applications and everyday record listening.

The OM PRO S uses an aluminum cantilever and a spherical stylus with an 18 μm tip radius. Ortofon specifies a 3 to 5 g tracking-force range, with 4 g recommended for normal use. At the recommended setting, it is rated for 70 μm tracking ability at 315 Hz.

With a 20 Hz to 18 kHz frequency range and 20 dB channel separation at 1 kHz, the OM PRO S is engineered for clear stereo playback in a DJ system. Its 5 mV output supports conventional phono-stage gain requirements. The 5 g cartridge weight can help when matching it to a compatible headshell and tonearm.

The OM PRO S is the headshell-mount version of the Pro S cartridge design, making it appropriate for turntables that accept standard mounted cartridges. It can be paired with a compatible headshell, tonearm, phono preamp, mixer, or receiver with a moving-magnet phono input. When the stylus eventually requires service, Ortofon specifies the Stylus PRO S as the replacement stylus.

Design & Installation

Use it with a moving-magnet-compatible phono input and replace the stylus with an Ortofon Stylus PRO S when needed.
