The Hifonics HSP-4.8DSP is a compact digital signal processor that accepts two or four input channels and provides eight RCA output channels for a custom vehicle audio system. It gives installers and enthusiasts a centralized way to manage signal routing, equalization, crossover points, time alignment, gain, and limiting. It is designed for integrating either an OEM radio or an aftermarket source unit with external amplifiers.

This processor is suited to systems that need more precise tuning than a head unit or amplifier can provide alone. High-level speaker inputs support connection to factory audio systems without RCA pre-outs, while four RCA inputs accommodate aftermarket source units. Selectable input loading and input-level settings help adapt the processor to a range of source signals.

Its tuning platform uses 32-bit processing with a 96 kHz sampling frequency and supports a 31-band input equalizer plus eight parametric EQ bands per output channel. Fully adjustable crossover filters, channel gain control, polarity inversion, and time alignment allow the system to be configured for active speakers, multi-amplifier layouts, and subwoofer integration. An onboard limiter section helps monitor and manage output signal levels.

Bluetooth connectivity and an external antenna allow settings to be adjusted through the compatible iOS or Android mobile app. The app provides access to routing, general and channel gain, crossover settings, input and output EQ, limiter controls, time alignment, and configurable memories. Front-panel indicators show processor power, Bluetooth connection, input clipping, and output limiter activity.

The HSP-4.8DSP fits between the source unit and amplifiers as the tuning and signal-management stage of the system. Its eight RCA outputs can feed separate amplifier channels for front speakers, rear speakers, center or fill channels, and subwoofers where applicable. Mounting hardware is included for a secure installation on a flat surface with room for wiring connections.

Design & Installation

The HSP-4.8DSP uses a compact black chassis with integrated mounting brackets and four high-temperature, impact-resistant nickel-plated RCA input connectors. It includes an external Bluetooth antenna, a reset/preset button, status LEDs, eight RCA outputs, and a power connector with two remote-output trigger wires. The processor stores settings in flash memory, so tuned settings are retained when power is disconnected.

Mount the processor on a flat location with clearance for connections and bracket hardware, avoiding areas with moving parts, excessive heat, harnesses, or fuel-system components. Connect it to a constant or switched 12-volt source using the supplied 1-amp inline fuse, establish a clean chassis ground, and connect the remote turn-on lead as required. Select the appropriate high- or low-level input mode and internal loading/input-level settings before tuning the system through the mobile app.
