Rockford Fosgate M5-1500X5 5-Channel Marine Amplifier

The Rockford Fosgate M5-1500X5 is a compact five-channel marine amplifier designed to power front, rear, and subwoofer channels from one chassis. It is intended for boats, powersports vehicles, and other 12-volt audio systems exposed to demanding outdoor conditions. Its five-channel layout helps simplify a full-system upgrade by combining speaker and subwoofer amplification.

This amplifier provides four full-range channels plus a dedicated subwoofer channel, allowing separate power delivery for cabin or tower speakers and bass. The front and rear channels use Class-AD topology, while the subwoofer channel uses Class-BD topology. It supports stereo speaker loads down to 2 ohms, a subwoofer load down to 1 ohm, and bridged front/rear operation at 4 ohms.

For system tuning, the M5-1500X5 includes adjustable high-pass and low-pass crossover controls, Punch EQ adjustment, and C.L.E.A.N. input and output clip indicators. These controls help match the amplifier to compatible speakers, subwoofers, and source-unit output levels. Balanced differential inputs are designed to help reduce noise picked up by signal cables.

The amplifier uses Rockford Fosgate's Element Ready design and carries an IPX6 water-ingress rating. Integrated harness connections, panel seals, and a smoked control-panel cover support installation in marine and outdoor environments. Its extruded aluminum heat sink and convection cooling are designed for passive thermal management.

With a chassis measuring 1.7 by 4.25 by 12.3 inches, the M5-1500X5 can fit where conventional full-size amplifiers may be difficult to place. It accepts low-level RCA or high-level input connections for OEM or aftermarket radio integration. The included PRESET function can configure the amplifier for compatible Rockford Fosgate stage-kit applications, while manual controls remain available when the preset is switched off.

Design & Installation

The M5-1500X5 uses an extruded aluminum heat sink, convection cooling, sealed harness connections, and a top-mounted control panel with a smoked lens cover. Its Element Ready construction is IPX6 rated, and the chassis is isolated from its mounting points to help reduce the chance of introduced vehicle noise. Power, protection, input-clip, and output-clip indicators provide visible operating status.

Use the supplied harnesses and connectors during installation, and plan for 4 AWG power wiring, 16 AWG speaker wiring, and an 80A MAXI fuse that is not included. The amplifier operates on 9 to 16 VDC electrical systems; Rockford Fosgate specifies fusing the main power cable within 18 inches of the battery and individually fusing each amplifier within 18 inches of the amplifier when one power cable feeds multiple amplifiers. Select speaker and subwoofer impedance carefully, then configure the front, rear, subwoofer, crossover, and input-mode controls for the connected system.
