The Rockford Fosgate Punch P1000X5 is a five-channel car amplifier designed to power a complete speaker-and-subwoofer system from one chassis. Its four full-range channels can drive front and rear speakers, while the dedicated fifth channel supplies a subwoofer. This layout helps simplify installations that would otherwise require separate multi-channel and mono amplifiers.
It is intended for vehicle owners upgrading factory or aftermarket audio systems with amplified speakers and bass. The front and rear channels provide up to 75 watts RMS each at 4 ohms or 125 watts RMS each at 2 ohms, while the subwoofer channel provides up to 500 watts RMS at 1 ohm. Front and rear channels can also be bridged for higher-power two-channel operation.
The P1000X5 uses Class A/B amplification for the full-range channels and Class BD amplification for the subwoofer channel. This combination supports full-range playback while improving efficiency on the bass channel. Rockford Fosgate rates the amplifier at 1,000 watts total RMS power.
Its signal connections accept high- or low-level input through RCA connections, allowing use with many factory radios and aftermarket head units without a separate line-output converter. C.L.E.A.N. setup circuitry uses input and output clip indicators to help set signal levels. Variable crossovers and onboard equalization provide basic tuning for speakers and subwoofer integration.
The amplifier is suited to systems that need four amplified speaker channels plus a dedicated bass channel in a compact installation. A 2/4-channel input switch and front/sub input switch add routing flexibility when fewer source outputs are available. Optional PLC2 remote level control compatibility allows accessible adjustment of the subwoofer level after installation.
Key Features
- Five-Channel Configuration: Powers front speakers, rear speakers, and a subwoofer from one amplifier.
- 1,000-Watt RMS Total: Provides rated continuous power across all five channels.
- Class A/B Plus Class BD: Uses dedicated full-range and subwoofer amplifier topologies.
- High- and Low-Level Inputs: Supports factory-radio and aftermarket-source integration.
- C.L.E.A.N. Setup: Clip indicators assist with practical gain setting.
- Variable Crossovers: Helps separate speaker and subwoofer frequency ranges.
Design & Installation
The P1000X5 is built around a cast-aluminum heatsink with convection cooling and a stealth top-mounted control panel. Its chassis measures 2.38 x 7.76 x 15.03 inches, making it suitable for installations where a single amplifier is preferred over multiple units. Power, protection, thermal, input-clip, and output-clip indicators provide operating-status feedback.
Use 4 AWG power wiring, a 150-amp recommended external fuse, and up to 12 AWG speaker wiring as specified by the manufacturer. Match the front and rear speaker loads to the supported 2- or 4-ohm stereo ratings, use 4 ohms when bridging a front or rear pair, and wire the subwoofer channel no lower than its rated 1-ohm load. Plan power wiring, grounding, speaker wiring, source connections, and an appropriately rated fuse as part of the installation; the optional PLC2 remote level control is available separately.
