The Cerwin Vega XED8005D is a compact five-channel Class-D car amplifier made to power front and rear speakers along with a dedicated subwoofer from one chassis. It provides an organized upgrade path for vehicles that need more output and control than a factory radio can deliver. Its channel layout suits systems that use four full-range speakers and one subwoofer.

At 4 ohms, the XED8005D supplies 65 watts RMS to each of four speaker channels and 200 watts RMS to the subwoofer channel. At 2 ohms, output increases to 90 watts RMS per speaker channel and 300 watts RMS on the subwoofer channel. This makes it appropriate for matching speakers and a subwoofer within the amplifier's rated impedance limits.

The full-range channels use a 10 Hz to 30 kHz bandwidth, while the subwoofer channel is specified from 10 Hz to 250 Hz. Variable high-pass and low-pass filters let an installer divide bass and full-range duties between the connected speakers. A selectable flat setting for the front and rear channels can also pass the full frequency range when an external crossover or processor is being used.

Class-D topology and a full PWM power supply support efficient operation in a small enclosure. The aluminum chassis is designed to help dissipate heat while keeping the amplifier's footprint manageable. The XED8005D can accept low-level RCA signals and includes high-level input capability for systems using a factory radio without RCA pre-outs. Its subwoofer section includes adjustable Vega Bass Boost from 0 to 12 dB at 45 Hz for careful low-frequency tailoring. A remote level-control connection supports convenient adjustment of the preset subwoofer level from the driver's seat.

Mount the amplifier on a solid, well-ventilated surface with its controls accessible for tuning, and avoid covering it with carpet or wiring. Use a negative-ground 12V vehicle electrical system, secure power and ground connections, and fuse the positive power cable close to the battery. Configure the front and rear channels for flat or high-pass operation as needed, then set the subwoofer low-pass filter, gain, and bass boost to suit the connected speakers and enclosure.
