JBL Club A5055 5-Channel Car Amplifier with Bass Remote

The JBL Club A5055 is a five-channel car amplifier designed to power a complete speaker-and-subwoofer upgrade from one compact chassis. It supplies dedicated amplification for front and rear speakers along with a separate subwoofer channel, helping replace the limited output of many factory or aftermarket radios. This layout is suited to drivers who want a more organized system without adding separate full-range and mono amplifiers.

At 4 ohms, the Club A5055 delivers 50 watts RMS to each of four full-range channels and 320 watts RMS to its subwoofer channel. At 2 ohms, the full-range channels are rated at 75 watts RMS each and the subwoofer channel at 500 watts RMS. It can also be configured in three-channel mode, with two bridged full-range channels and the subwoofer channel operating together.

The four main channels use Class AB amplification, while the subwoofer channel uses Class D amplification. This Class AB+D arrangement is designed to provide full-range speaker power and dedicated bass power within one amplifier. Balanced differential inputs are used to help reduce noise and distortion, including noise that can be introduced by a vehicle electrical system.

System tuning is handled with selectable high-pass and low-pass filtering for the front and rear channels, plus a low-pass filter for the subwoofer channel. The subwoofer section also includes adjustable bass boost and a 0/180-degree phase switch. These controls allow the amplifier to be matched more carefully to installed speakers, subwoofers, and vehicle acoustics.

The Club A5055 accepts both low-level and speaker-level input signals, making it suitable for many aftermarket-radio and factory-radio installations. Its selectable DC or remote turn-on mode supports different signal and turn-on arrangements. A wired remote bass control module is included for convenient adjustment of subwoofer level from the driver's seat.

Design & Installation

The Club A5055 uses a low-profile chassis measuring 14-3/16 inches wide, 2-1/16 inches high, and 7-1/8 inches deep. Its compact footprint is intended for installations where available mounting space is limited. An onboard LED indicates power or protection status, while protection circuitry addresses short circuits, high temperature, overvoltage, and undervoltage conditions.

Use 4-gauge power and ground wiring as recommended by JBL, and select speakers and a subwoofer whose impedance and RMS power needs fit the amplifier's rated operating modes. The amplifier accepts RCA low-level inputs or speaker-level signals through the included bare-wire-to-RCA adapters; installation wiring and hardware are not included. Set crossover, gain, bass boost, and phase controls during system setup, and mount the included remote bass module where it can be reached safely.
