Hifonics A2500.5D 5-Channel Car Audio Amplifier

The Hifonics A2500.5D is a five-channel car audio amplifier designed to operate four full-range speaker channels and a dedicated subwoofer channel from one chassis. It is suited to vehicle owners building a complete amplified system without installing separate multi-channel and mono amplifiers. The five-channel layout helps simplify system planning for front, rear, and bass amplification.

This amplifier provides separate output configurations for the full-range channels and Channel 5 subwoofer output. It is rated for 4 x 60 watts plus 1 x 250 watts at 4 ohms, or 4 x 100 watts plus 1 x 450 watts at 2 ohms. Channel 5 can also operate at 1 ohm with a listed output of 750 watts.

The A2500.5D uses Hifonics Full Range Super D-Class and Super D-Class hybrid amplification technology. Its design combines electronic crossovers, Ultra-Fi MOSFET output devices, and a pulse-width-modulated power supply. These features support a compact all-in-one amplifier approach for systems using component speakers, coaxial speakers, and a subwoofer.

Built-in crossover controls allow the installer to tailor the signal sent to the connected speakers and subwoofer. Channels 1 through 4 have variable high-pass crossover adjustment, while Channel 5 has a variable low-pass crossover. A bass EQ control provides 0 to 12 dB of adjustment at 45 Hz for the subwoofer section.

For source-unit integration, the amplifier includes RCA inputs as well as speaker-level audio inputs. It also supports switched remote turn-on or signal-sense turn-on for Channels 1 through 4. A wired HFR-31 bass remote is included for adjusting the Channel 5 bass level from the driver's area.

Design & Installation

The A2500.5D has a black chassis with a heavy-duty aluminum-alloy heat sink designed to move heat away from its MOSFET output devices. It uses nickel-plated RCA connectors and nickel-plated, high-temperature, impact-resistant hex-screw terminals. LED diagnostic indicators monitor overload and speaker-short protection conditions.

Use 4 AWG power and ground wiring at the amplifier terminals, along with an external 60A fuse as specified for this model. Mount the amplifier securely in a ventilated location and route power, speaker, and signal wiring carefully through the vehicle. Configure the crossover and input-mode controls to match the connected source unit, full-range speakers, and subwoofer system.
