Rockford Fosgate M2-500X1 500W Mono Marine Amplifier

The Rockford Fosgate M2-500X1 is a mono Element Ready marine amplifier designed to power a subwoofer in boat, powersports, and other outdoor audio systems. It delivers focused low-frequency amplification while using a compact chassis that can fit where larger amplifiers may be impractical. Its 2-ohm stable Class-D design helps provide substantial bass output with efficient use of the electrical system.

This amplifier is intended for systems using a subwoofer with a final 2- or 4-ohm load. It produces 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms or 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms, measured at 14.4 volts. That makes it a practical match for a single subwoofer or a properly wired multi-subwoofer setup within its supported impedance range.

The M2-500X1 is voiced for bass duty, with a 20 Hz to 250 Hz frequency response, an adjustable low-pass crossover, and a variable infrasonic filter. The infrasonic control can help limit frequencies below the useful range of a subwoofer enclosure, particularly in ported designs. A wired remote level control is included for convenient subwoofer-level adjustment from the helm or listening position.

Rockford Fosgate's C.L.E.A.N. input and output indicators help identify clipping while setting source volume and amplifier gain. The amplifier also includes adjustable Punch EQ, providing 0 to +18 dB of boost at 45 Hz. These controls allow the installer to tailor bass response while maintaining a more controlled setup process.

For outdoor installations, the M2-500X1 uses Element Ready construction with corrosion-conscious terminals, a conformal-coated circuit board, and a UV-resistant powder-coated cast-aluminum heatsink. It accepts both RCA low-level and speaker-level input signals, making it suitable for aftermarket receivers as well as many factory-style source units. RCA pass-through outputs can also simplify adding another amplifier to the system.

Design & Installation

The M2-500X1 combines a compact cast-aluminum heatsink with a UV-resistant powder-coated finish, conformal-coated circuitry, and zinc-nickel-plated brass terminals. Its power, ground, and remote terminals use set-screw connections, while nickel-plated signal connections are designed to resist corrosion. Power and protect status LEDs provide visible operating feedback, and the amplifier automatically mutes if it enters thermal or short-circuit protection.

Install the amplifier on a solid surface with at least 1 inch of clearance around the heatsink for cooling, and do not mount it in an engine compartment. Use an externally mounted 80A fuse on the positive power cable within 18 inches of the battery, and keep the ground cable under 30 inches when possible. Use either the RCA low-level inputs or the high-level input harness, never both at the same time, and wire subwoofers to a final impedance no lower than 2 ohms.
