AUDIO360 AD0C 0 AWG Amplifier Wiring Kit $78.00
Bundle total: $442.50

The Hifonics Colossus Classic HCC-1700.4 is a four-channel car audio amplifier for adding substantially more power and tuning control than a head unit can provide alone. It can drive front and rear speakers in a conventional four-channel system or be configured for bridged channels where appropriate. This makes it suited to vehicle audio upgrades that need amplified full-range speakers, a mixed speaker-and-subwoofer arrangement, or both.

This amplifier is designed for installers and enthusiasts building a system around aftermarket speakers or integrating additional amplification into an existing vehicle. Its four full-range channels support stereo operation at 2 or 4 ohms, while two pairs of channels can be bridged into 4-ohm loads. Matching speaker impedance and power handling to the selected configuration is important for safe, reliable operation.

Published output ratings are 225 watts per channel at 4 ohms and 425 watts per channel at 2 ohms, with up to 850 watts per bridged pair at 4 ohms. The amplifier covers a 10 Hz to 22 kHz frequency response range, allowing it to be used for full-range speakers as well as suitably configured subwoofer channels. Variable high-pass and low-pass filters help divide bass, midrange, and treble duties between the speakers in a system.

The HCC-1700.4 uses a Class A/B design with Ultra-Fi MOSFET output devices, a low-noise preamplifier circuit, and a dual-coil PWM power supply. Its variable electronic crossover network is specified at 12 dB per octave, with adjustable high-pass and low-pass ranges up to 2.5 kHz. A built-in bass control provides 0 to 10 dB of boost for users who want additional low-frequency adjustment.

For system integration, the amplifier provides RCA inputs and speaker-level input capability, making it usable with many aftermarket and factory-radio installations. Signal-sensing remote turn-on can simplify integration in systems without a conventional remote-output lead. Protection diagnostics monitor thermal, overload, and speaker-short conditions to help identify installation or operating issues.

Key Features

  • Four-Channel Output: Powers four speakers or supports two bridged channel pairs.
  • 2-Ohm Stereo Stability: Supports higher-output speaker configurations at 2 ohms per channel.
  • Variable Crossovers: Helps route appropriate frequencies to speakers and subwoofers.
  • Bass Boost Control: Provides adjustable 0 to 10 dB bass enhancement.
  • High- and Low-Level Inputs: Supports RCA and speaker-level source connections.
  • Protection Diagnostics: LED indicators monitor thermal, overload, and short conditions.

Design & Installation

The HCC-1700.4 uses an aluminum heat sink to help manage heat from its MOSFET output section. Nickel-plated RCA connections and high-temperature, impact-resistant nickel-plated terminals are intended to resist corrosion and provide secure cable termination. Molded, angled power, ground, and speaker terminals support a more organized wiring layout.

Mount the amplifier to a secure surface with adequate ventilation and keep it upright rather than inverted. Use 4 AWG power and ground wiring, a properly sized 100A fuse, and 12 AWG speaker wiring as applicable to the installation. Set crossover points and input level controls after selecting the correct speaker impedance and stereo or bridged wiring mode; professional installation is advisable for complex systems.
