Hertz MPK165P-3 6.5" 2-Way Component Speaker System

The Hertz MPK 165P.3 is a 6.5-inch, two-way component speaker system designed for upgrading a vehicle's front-stage sound. It separates the woofer and tweeter so each driver can be placed where it works most effectively in the cabin. The included passive crossover manages the frequency split between them for a coordinated installation.

This system is intended for listeners building a detailed front stage with strong mid-bass support. Its 3-ohm nominal impedance is designed to make effective use of compatible amplifier power, while its 115-watt continuous power handling supports amplified systems. With a 45 Hz to 22.5 kHz system frequency response, it covers the core musical range while pairing naturally with a dedicated subwoofer for lower bass duties.

The MP 165P.3 woofer uses an exponential V-cone pressed-pulp cone reinforced with cotton fibers. Its Boundary Free rubber surround is engineered to support efficient movement and broad mid-bass output. A 14 mm pure-copper voice coil on a polyamide former and a 95 mm ferrite magnet support controlled operation during dynamic passages.

High frequencies are handled by the separate MP 25.3 tweeter, which uses a 29 mm Tetolon fiber soft dome. Its Center Tuning Duct geometry, ferrofluid-cooled 25 mm voice coil, and rear damping chamber are designed for controlled high-frequency response. The tweeter's neodymium motor and optimized faceplate also support flexible off-axis installation.

The MPCX 2P.3 passive crossover joins the system together at 4 kHz. Its woofer section uses a 1 mm pure-copper-wire inductor, while the tweeter section uses a 160 V bi-metallized polyester film capacitor and air-core inductor. A selectable 0 or +2.5 dB tweeter setting allows the upper-frequency level to be adjusted for vehicle acoustics and tweeter placement.

Design & Installation

The MP 165P.3 woofer combines a pressed-pulp-and-cotton-fiber V-cone with a Boundary Free rubber surround, high-density ferrite magnet, and acoustically transparent aluminum-alloy basket. The MP 25.3 tweeter uses a Tetolon fiber dome, neodymium magnet, and ferrofluid-cooled voice coil. A metal mesh grille with an aluminum Hertz logo and mineral-powder-coated inner grille is included, along with tweeter mounting accessories.

Confirm available door depth and a 141 mm cutout before installation; the woofer has a 64 mm mounting depth and 74.5 mm overall depth. Mount the MPCX 2P.3 crossover in a dry, protected location and wire the amplifier to its input terminals, then connect its dedicated woofer and tweeter outputs to the matching drivers. The crossover measures 102 x 76.5 x 37 mm, and the tweeter level can be set to 0 or +2.5 dB after listening from the driver's seat.
