Hertz MPK 165.3 6.5" 2-Way Component Speaker System

The Hertz MPK 165.3 is a 6.5-inch, 2-way component speaker system for replacing factory front-stage speakers with separately mounted woofers and tweeters. It combines the MP 165.3 woofer, MP 25.3 tweeter, and MPCX 2.3 passive crossover. This format allows more flexible tweeter placement than a coaxial speaker for a more focused front soundstage.

Designed for systems that need strong mid-bass from compact door locations, the MPK 165.3 has a rated frequency response of 40 Hz to 22.5 kHz. Its 110-watt continuous power rating and 4-ohm nominal impedance make it suitable for use with a properly matched aftermarket amplifier. The 92 dB system sensitivity also supports use in many upgraded factory-radio systems, though external amplification can provide greater output headroom.

The MP 165.3 woofer uses an exponential V-cone pressed-pulp cone with cotton fibers and a Boundary Free rubber surround. This construction is intended to maintain useful cone area and controlled mid-bass response while supporting broad midrange dispersion. A pure-copper voice coil on a Polyamide former and a high-density ferrite motor support the woofer section.

High frequencies are handled by the MP 25.3, a 29 mm Tetolon fiber soft-dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet and 25 mm voice coil. Its rear chamber and Center Tuning Duct geometry are designed to support a low crossover region with the woofer. The dedicated MPCX 2.3 crossover divides the system at 3.5 kHz and offers a 0 or +2 dB tweeter-level setting.

This system is a practical fit for a front-door and dash, sail-panel, or A-pillar upgrade where separate tweeter positioning is possible. The woofer's 63 mm mounting depth can help in installations with limited door clearance, but vehicle-specific fitment should always be checked before purchase. Full-protection metal mesh grilles and mineral powder-coated inner grilles are included for installation options where the woofers are exposed.

Design & Installation

The MP 165.3 woofer uses a high-density flux ferrite magnet, low-carbon iron plates, a pure-copper voice coil, and an acoustically transparent aluminum-alloy basket. The MP 25.3 tweeter uses a Tetolon fiber soft dome, neodymium magnet, ferrofluid-cooled voice coil, and rear chamber. The compact MPCX 2.3 crossover uses 160V bi-metallized polyester film capacitors, 1 mm pure-copper-wire inductors, and a vented top grille for heat dissipation.

Mount the 6.5-inch woofers in a rigid, properly sealed door or speaker location with sufficient clearance for their 63 mm mounting depth and 141 mm cutout diameter. Install the tweeters behind their protective grilles and use the supplied passive crossovers between the amplifier or head unit and each woofer/tweeter set; do not connect the tweeters directly to full-range power. Confirm polarity, secure all wiring away from moving parts and sharp edges, and select the 0 or +2 dB tweeter setting after listening from the driver's seat.
