Rockford Fosgate P2V2-65 6.5" Convertible Speakers

The Rockford Fosgate P2V2-65 is a pair of 6.5-inch, 4-ohm 2-way convertible car speakers designed to replace factory speakers in compatible vehicle locations. Its removable tweeters allow the set to work as a conventional coaxial speaker system or as a separated component system. This flexibility suits vehicles with either a single door-speaker location or separate woofer and tweeter locations.

In coaxial configuration, the tweeter locks into the center of each woofer for a straightforward installation in a single speaker opening. For a component layout, the tweeters can be removed and installed in the supplied flush- or surface-mount cups. Woofer phase plugs are included for use after the tweeters are relocated.

The P2V2-65 is rated for 75 watts RMS and 150 watts peak power handling per speaker. Its 49 Hz to 25 kHz frequency response and 88 dB sensitivity rating at 1 watt/1 meter support use with an aftermarket amplifier or a compatible factory or aftermarket radio. A 3/4-inch Tetolon inverted-dome tweeter handles high-frequency reproduction.

Rockford Fosgate uses a mica-reinforced polypropylene woofer cone, Santoprene half-roll surround, vented Kapton voice-coil former, Nomex spider, and ferrite motor structure. The VAST 2.0 surround geometry increases effective radiating cone area without increasing the basket size. An overhung voice-coil design and vented former are intended to support controlled operation and heat dissipation.

For component installations, the included external passive crossover provides a 9 kHz high-pass filter at 12 dB per octave and offers 0 dB or -3 dB tweeter input options. When the tweeter remains mounted in the woofer, the internal crossover uses a 9 kHz high-pass filter at 6 dB per octave. The fit-focused frame and removable motor cover help accommodate a range of factory mounting locations.

Design & Installation

The P2V2-65 uses a 15% glass-fiber-reinforced PA66 composite basket, mica-reinforced polypropylene cone, Santoprene surround, linear Nomex spider, and Y35 ferrite magnet structure. Its 1.25-inch vented Kapton woofer voice-coil former and braided tinsel leads are designed for durable operation. Co-molded basket terminals and a 2-pin Micro-Fit 3.0 crossover connection help keep the installation organized.

Confirm the 5.42-inch cutout requirement, 2.5-inch mounting depth, and 0.43-inch front-side clearance before purchase. Removing the motor cover reduces required mounting depth to 2.26 inches. For a separated-tweeter installation, use the included passive crossover and select either the 0 dB or -3 dB tweeter input; grilles are not included.
