Hertz CPK 165 6.5" Two-Way Component Speaker System

The Hertz CPK 165 is a 6.5-inch two-way component speaker system designed for car audio upgrades that separate the woofer and tweeter for more flexible placement. It combines CP 165 woofers, CP 25 dome tweeters, and CPCX 2 passive crossover networks. The system is intended for vehicles where improved front-stage detail and clearer placement of high frequencies are desired.

With 105 watts continuous power handling, 315 watts peak power handling, and a 4-ohm nominal impedance, the CPK 165 is suited to compatible aftermarket amplification or a properly matched factory-upgrade system. Its published frequency response is 45 Hz to 22.5 kHz, covering midbass through upper-frequency detail. The 92.5 dB SPL sensitivity rating supports efficient output from a suitably matched amplifier.

The CP 165 woofer uses a pressed-paper cone with FEM-optimized geometry and a butyl-rubber surround. Its high-density ferrite magnet and low-carbon pole plates are designed to maintain control at higher power levels. A 25 mm pure-copper voice coil supports the woofer's moving assembly.

The included CP 25 tweeter uses a 29 mm Tetolon fiber dome, a neodymium magnet, and a 25 mm voice coil cooled with ferrofluid. Hertz's Center Tuning Duct geometry is used to manage air exchange between the dome and rear chamber. The tweeter's low 1,200 Hz resonance frequency supports the system's 2.8 kHz crossover point.

The CPCX 2 passive crossover divides the signal at 2.8 kHz with a 12 dB-per-octave slope. Its three-position tweeter-level control provides -2 dB, 0 dB, and +2 dB settings for system tuning. This makes the kit appropriate for front-door and dash or sail-panel installations where tweeter location can affect tonal balance.

Design & Installation

The CP 165 woofer uses a compact three-spoke basket with a rubber magnet cover, a pressed-paper cone, and a butyl-rubber surround. The CP 25 tweeter uses a Tetolon dome and neodymium motor structure. Supplied woofer grilles combine a high-resistance ABS frame with removable metallic mesh.

Confirm available mounting depth, cutout diameter, and door-panel clearance before installation, since vehicle fitment varies. Connect each woofer and tweeter through its included CPCX 2 passive crossover rather than directly paralleling the drivers. The crossover provides separate amplifier input, woofer output, and tweeter output connections, while its tweeter-level switch can be set during final tuning.
