Crunch CRA-1500.4 Four-Channel Class D Car Amplifier

The Crunch CRA-1500.4 is a four-channel Class D car audio amplifier for adding external power to a speaker system or building a mixed speaker-and-subwoofer setup. It provides four amplified channels and supports bridged operation when a system calls for higher power on fewer channels. Its combination of RCA and high-level inputs makes it suitable for both aftermarket receivers and many factory-audio integration projects.

This amplifier is designed for users powering front and rear speakers, high-output component systems, or selected bridged-channel configurations. It is rated for 4 x 185 watts at 4 ohms, 4 x 375 watts at 2 ohms, or 2 x 750 watts bridged at 4 ohms. The 2-ohm stereo minimum and 4-ohm bridged minimum should be observed when matching speakers and wiring the system.

The CRA-1500.4 uses a Class D topology intended to provide efficient power delivery in a compact format. Its low-noise preamplifier circuit is designed to accept low-voltage source signals while minimizing distortion through the amplification stage. A 10 Hz to 30 kHz frequency response and adjustable crossover controls support use with full-range speakers or appropriately configured subwoofer channels.

Crunch equips the amplifier with a switch-mode power supply and proprietary SPEED-FET MOSFET output devices. The SMPS is intended to maintain stable power delivery as vehicle voltage changes, while the output-stage design focuses on efficiency. Quick Thermal Dispersion Technology adds aluminum heat-sink mass to help manage operating heat.

For system flexibility, the amplifier includes fully adjustable 12 dB-per-octave high-pass and low-pass crossovers from 40 Hz to 400 Hz. It can operate in four-channel stereo, dual stereo bridged, stereo plus bridged mono, or dual bridged mono configurations. This makes it a practical option for a staged upgrade when paired with correctly matched speakers, wiring, and source-unit connections.

Design & Installation

The CRA-1500.4 has a black finish, an aluminum heat sink, nickel-plated brass connection terminals, and screw-down connectors. Its heat-sink design is intended to add thermal mass, while the terminals are designed for secure, corrosion-resistant connections. A power/protect LED system provides visible diagnostic feedback at the amplifier.

Use 4 AWG power and ground wiring at the amplifier terminals, an external 60A fuse, and speaker wire up to 8 gauge at the speaker terminals. Select RCA inputs when the source unit provides preamp outputs, or use the high-level input capability for compatible OEM integration; the unit also supports auto turn-on through its high-level-input arrangement. Set the crossover mode and frequency for the speakers being powered, and do not wire below 2 ohms per stereo channel or 4 ohms when bridged.
