The Shure BLX14R/MX53-J11 is a single-channel UHF wireless presenter system built around a rack-mount receiver, bodypack transmitter, and low-profile earset microphone. It is designed for hands-free speech reinforcement where a fixed wired microphone would limit movement. The J11 version operates in the 596–616 MHz frequency band, so frequency authorization and local RF conditions should be checked before use.
This system suits presenters, educators, worship leaders, conference speakers, and A/V teams that need clear voice pickup while keeping the microphone close to the speaker. The MX153 earset places its omnidirectional capsule near the mouth, helping maintain a consistent speaking level as the user turns or moves. Its lightweight over-ear format is intended for discreet, stable wear during extended presentations.
The BLX system has a specified audio frequency response of 50 Hz to 15 kHz, with response depending on the microphone used. The included MX153 electret condenser microphone has a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and is engineered for speech clarity, plosive protection, and no proximity effect. Its omnidirectional pattern provides natural pickup, while careful gain setting and placement remain important in louder rooms.
The BLX4R receiver uses a group and channel scan to locate an available operating channel, then the BLX1 bodypack is set to the matching group and channel. The receiver provides balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4-inch audio outputs for connection to a mixer, powered speaker, amplifier, or installed sound system. The BLX1 bodypack operates on two AA alkaline batteries for up to 14 hours under typical conditions.
For installed and mobile sound systems, the BLX4R mounts in a standard 19-inch equipment rack using the supplied hardware. The included external antennas, rack hardware, bodypack, power supply, earset accessories, and batteries provide the core components needed for a single wireless speech channel. Additional BLX systems can be coordinated within a compatible frequency band, subject to local spectrum conditions and RF environment.
Key Features
- J11 UHF Band: Operates from 596–616 MHz; verify local authorization before deployment.
- Rack-Mount Receiver: The BLX4R fits a standard 19-inch audio equipment rack with supplied mounting hardware.
- Hands-Free Earset: The MX153 omnidirectional earset keeps the microphone positioned close to the speaker.
- Long Battery Life: The BLX1 bodypack runs up to 14 hours on two AA alkaline batteries.
- Flexible Audio Outputs: Balanced XLR and 1/4-inch outputs connect to mixers, amplifiers, and PA systems.
- Channel Scan Setup: Receiver scanning helps identify an available group and channel for operation.
Design & Installation
The BLX4R receiver combines molded ABS and steel construction in a half-rack format, while the BLX1 bodypack uses a molded ABS enclosure. The MX153 uses a subminiature electret condenser capsule, flexible over-ear frame, Kevlar-reinforced soft-flex cable, and CommShield RF filtering technology. The earset includes a protective pouch, collar clip, and three windscreens.
Mount the receiver in a standard 19-inch rack with the included brackets and hardware, then connect its XLR or 1/4-inch output to the destination audio system. Attach the supplied antennas, power the receiver with its included external supply, install two AA batteries in the bodypack, and match transmitter group and channel settings to the receiver. For best speech pickup, position the earset capsule approximately 1/2 inch from the corner of the mouth and adjust bodypack gain while monitoring the receiver.
