The sE Electronics V7 X is a wired dynamic instrument microphone designed for close-miking instruments in live sound and studio recording. Its supercardioid pickup pattern helps focus on the intended source while reducing pickup from nearby instruments, monitors, and room sound. It is a practical choice for performers, engineers, and venues that need a durable XLR microphone for repeatable stage and recording use.

Custom-tuned for instruments, the V7 X is suited to electric and bass guitar cabinets, snare drums, toms, brass, woodwinds, piano, percussion, strings, and other amplified or acoustic sources. Its 30 Hz to 19 kHz frequency range supports extended low-frequency capture alongside detailed upper-frequency response. The microphone can also be used for vocals when an instrument-focused dynamic microphone is preferred.

A custom DMC7 X dynamic capsule combines an aluminum voice coil with a neodymium magnet. This design is paired with a supercardioid polar pattern to provide focused capture and useful rejection of off-axis sound. The result is a close-miking tool that can help keep individual sources more distinct in busy stage or recording setups.

The V7 X uses a patented integrated capsule suspension that decouples the capsule from mechanical vibration. This construction is intended to reduce rumble, handling noise, and vibration transferred through a stand or the microphone body. An internal red windscreen helps reduce unwanted wind noise, and a black replacement windscreen is included.

Its 3-pin male XLR output works with standard microphone cables, mixing consoles, microphone preamps, and audio interfaces with XLR microphone inputs. The 300-ohm microphone has a recommended load impedance above 1 kOhm. Add it to a conventional mic stand, boom, drum-miking setup, or guitar-cabinet setup using the included mic clip and thread adapter.

Key Features

  • Dynamic DMC7 X Capsule: Custom-tuned instrument capsule uses an aluminum voice coil and neodymium magnet.
  • Supercardioid Pattern: Focuses capture on the source while helping reduce off-axis bleed.
  • 30 Hz–19 kHz Response: Covers low-frequency instruments as well as detailed upper-frequency content.
  • Integrated Capsule Suspension: Helps reduce handling noise, vibration, footfall noise, and rumble.
  • Internal Windscreen: Red windscreen reduces wind noise; a black replacement is included.
  • Gold-Plated XLR Connection: Provides a standard 3-pin analog microphone connection for pro audio equipment.

Design & Installation

The V7 X has an all-metal chassis made from durable zinc alloy, along with a spring-steel mesh grille. Its beveled grille edge helps keep the microphone from rolling when placed on a flat surface. The XLR connector uses gold-plated contacts, while the internal capsule suspension is designed to isolate the capsule from shocks and vibration.

Connect the microphone to a mixer, microphone preamp, recorder, or audio interface using a standard XLR microphone cable. Mount it with the supplied mic clip and thread adapter, then aim it directly toward the sound source for focused capture. For live use, position the microphone behind PA speakers and use close placement as appropriate; moving it closer increases bass response through proximity effect.
