sE Electronics RF SPACE Microphone Reflexion Filter

The sE Electronics RF SPACE is a portable microphone Reflexion Filter designed to reduce the influence of room reflections during recording. It mounts behind and around a microphone to help create a more controlled acoustic area in spaces that are not fully treated. It is suited to studio, home-studio, mobile-recording, podcast, and voice-over setups.

Rather than functioning as a complete soundproof booth, the RF SPACE is intended to manage reflections that can reach the microphone from nearby room surfaces. This can help keep the recorded source more direct and consistent when tracking vocals or instruments. Its large format also makes it appropriate for larger microphones and varied recording positions.

The RF SPACE uses sE Electronics' patented multi-layer acoustic design with deeper air gaps and multiple acoustic elements. Its construction combines absorption, isolation, and diffusion to address room influence across the frequency spectrum. The design is intended to maintain a balanced, acoustically neutral environment around the microphone.

Specialized mounting hardware provides horizontal, vertical, and tilt adjustment, with lockable positioning once the microphone and filter are aligned. The assembly can be fitted to microphone stands or drum hardware. This flexibility supports vocal tracking as well as close-miking applications on instruments, amplifiers, and drums.

For a recording setup, the RF SPACE works alongside a microphone, suitable stand, audio interface or preamp, and recording software. It is not a substitute for broader room treatment, but it can be a practical acoustic-control addition where permanent treatment is unavailable or where a portable solution is preferred. Sealable sandbags are included to help support the mic stand if needed, though sand is not supplied.

Design & Installation

The RF SPACE has a semi-round, silver-and-black acoustic-screen design with a 10-layer patented Air-Gap construction. Its reported acoustic assembly includes vertically arranged bass traps, a perforated aluminum diffuser, a high-density acoustic absorber, a polycarbonate diffuser, and an isolating air chamber. The filter is hand-built and includes dedicated mounting components for stable positioning.

Mount the hardware securely to a sturdy conventional vertical microphone stand or compatible drum hardware, then attach the filter to the L-bracket with the supplied screws. Attach the microphone in its shockmount or clip using the included standoff, using the adapter for 5/8-inch U.S.-standard threaded mounts. Position the microphone capsule approximately even with the filter's front edge, keep the combined center of gravity directly above the stand, and use the included sealable sandbags if additional stand support is needed.
