sE Electronics RF Pro Black Microphone Isolation Shield

The sE Electronics RF Pro Black is a portable acoustic treatment filter designed to mount behind a microphone. It helps reduce room reflections that can reach the microphone during vocal, voice-over, podcast, and instrument recording. It is intended for creators working in home studios, professional rooms, and mobile recording setups.

A microphone can capture reflected sound from nearby walls and surfaces in addition to the intended voice or instrument. The RF Pro Black places a curved, multi-layer acoustic barrier behind the microphone to help limit those reflections. This supports a more controlled capture before recording reaches the interface, mixer, or recorder.

The RF Pro uses sE's patented nine-layer acoustic design, developed to work across the frequency spectrum rather than concentrating only on upper frequencies. Its stated goal is balanced absorption and diffusion with minimal tonal change. Approximate coloration is specified at 1 dB.

This model is suited to vocals, acoustic guitar, guitar and bass cabinets, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, kick drum, and room-microphone applications. It can be useful where permanent acoustic treatment is not practical or where an additional degree of isolation is desired. The filter does not replace careful microphone selection, placement, or full-room acoustic treatment.

The updated mounting hardware provides adjustable placement for the filter and microphone assembly. Pan, tilt, distance, and height adjustments help align the microphone with the shield and keep the system balanced over the stand. The RF Pro Black includes the hardware needed to mount it to a conventional microphone stand.

Design & Installation

The RF Pro Black combines a curved acoustic screen with an all-metal mounting system. Its black version uses special matte black acoustic fabric behind a black perforated aluminum rear panel. The moving hardware components are chromatized to support low wear during adjustment.

Attach the stand clamp to a sturdy conventional vertical microphone stand, then install the filter support rod and mounting assembly. Mount the microphone using its clip or shockmount and the included standoff, using the included adapter for 5/8-inch U.S.-standard threaded mounts. Position the microphone capsule approximately level with the filter's front edge, then adjust the assembly so its combined center of gravity is directly over the stand.
