Rockford Fosgate PMX-8DH 5" Wired TFT Display Head

The Rockford Fosgate PMX-8DH is a full-function wired display head designed to control the compatible PMX-8BB hide-away digital media receiver. It brings the receiver's key functions to an accessible dashboard, helm, or console location when the main source unit is mounted out of sight. This makes it well suited to marine, powersports, and other installations where a conventional receiver location is impractical.

A 5-inch color TFT display provides a clear visual interface for source selection, menus, settings, and system status. The ultra-bright screen is optically wet-bonded to help prevent dust or moisture from entering the display assembly. Front-panel controls provide direct access to common adjustments without requiring access to the hidden PMX-8BB receiver.

The PMX-8DH is a controller rather than a standalone audio receiver, so its sound capability depends on the connected PMX-8BB and the rest of the audio system. Its backlit rotary encoder supports main-volume adjustment, zone-volume adjustment, menu navigation, and settings changes. Dedicated subwoofer controls allow quick adjustment of subwoofer output from 0 to 20.

Built for exposed environments, the display head carries an IPX6 water-intrusion rating and uses a water-resistant rotary encoder. Its conformal-coated circuit board and Element Ready construction are intended to support use around water, sun, temperature changes, corrosion, dust, and vibration. White LED button illumination supports visibility in low-light conditions.

The PMX-8DH connects directly to a PMX-8BB through the included 13-DIN extension cable and can also accept a composite video input for an external camera used with that receiver. Its front-mount format is useful where rear-panel clearance is limited. It is a practical control point for larger multi-zone PMX-8BB systems that need a full-size display at the primary operating position.

Design & Installation

The PMX-8DH uses a front-mount display-head design with a 5-inch color TFT screen, backlit rotary encoder, white LED button illumination, and optically wet-bonded display construction. A conformal-coated PCB and IPX6-rated enclosure help support installations exposed to water and environmental stress. The trim bezel and mounting plate create a finished front-panel installation.

Mount the unit on a flat panel with adequate rear clearance for the display head and cabling, using the supplied mounting plate and screws. The required panel cutout measures 7.1 by 4.5 inches, and the included 10-foot PMX10C 13-DIN extension cable connects the display head to a PMX-8BB. Use the USB port only for firmware updates, and connect the composite video input only when adding a compatible external camera to the PMX-8BB system.
