The Rockford Fosgate M2D2-12SB is a 12-inch marine subwoofer designed for sealed enclosures where available installation space is limited. It adds low-frequency output to a boat or powersports audio system while using a sealed-box alignment intended for controlled bass response. The black version includes interchangeable grille styling options for a coordinated installation.

This dual-voice-coil subwoofer is rated for 400 watts RMS and 1,600 watts peak power handling. Its VersaSwitch impedance selector lets the installer choose a 1-ohm or 4-ohm final load without conventional series or parallel voice-coil wiring. That flexibility can simplify matching the subwoofer to a compatible marine amplifier.

The M2D2-12SB is built for marine environments with Rockford Fosgate's Element Ready design. Its UV-stable ASA frame and grille components, mineral-filled polypropylene cone, sealed Deutsch connections, and marine-grade terminals are intended to address exposure to sun and water spray. It carries an IPX6 water-intrusion rating.

Integrated Color Optix RGB LEDs illuminate the subwoofer for a customizable system appearance. A separately sold Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB controller and the RF Connect app are required for controller-based color and pattern adjustment. The included LED harness supports the subwoofer's lighting connection.

For system upgrades, the M2D2-12SB is intended to pair with a suitable marine amplifier, a properly built 0.75-cubic-foot sealed enclosure, and compatible source equipment. Its wide frequency range covers bass and upper-bass duties, while the 15 mm Xmax supports usable cone travel. It is sold individually and includes grille components and mounting hardware.

Design & Installation

The M2D2-12SB uses an injection-molded mineral-filled polypropylene cone with UV inhibitors, a synthetic-fiber-blend spider, and a UV-stable ASA plastic frame and grille system. Gold-plated marine-grade brass terminals provide conventional speaker connections, while integrated Deutsch/Amphenol connectivity supports protected plug-and-play wiring. The removable two-piece grille system allows either stainless-steel mesh or a black Sport-style insert to be fitted.

Install this model in a sealed enclosure with the manufacturer-listed 0.75-cubic-foot internal volume and allow for its specified mounting dimensions. Turn the connected amplifier off before changing the VersaSwitch impedance setting, then confirm that the amplifier is stable at the selected 1-ohm or 4-ohm load. For Color Optix control through the RF Connect app, add the separately sold PMX-RGB controller and provide fused LED power within the specified voltage range.
