The Rockford Fosgate M2D2-12S is a 12-inch marine subwoofer engineered for sealed enclosures where installation space is limited. It adds dedicated low-frequency output to boats and other outdoor audio systems while incorporating integrated multicolor RGB LED lighting. The white finish and interchangeable grille options suit installations that need both durable construction and a coordinated appearance.

This dual-voice-coil subwoofer is rated for 400 watts RMS and 1,600 watts peak, making it suitable for use with a properly matched marine amplifier. Its sealed-enclosure design is intended to support controlled, accurate bass response rather than requiring a large enclosure. A recommended 0.75-cubic-foot sealed box helps provide a practical starting point for system planning.

The M2D2-12S uses Rockford Fosgate's VersaSwitch system to select a 1-ohm or 4-ohm final impedance without conventional series or parallel voice-coil wiring. This gives installers flexibility when matching the subwoofer to an amplifier's supported load. The subwoofer's dual 2-ohm voice coils and switchable configuration can simplify system layout during a new build or upgrade.

Integrated Color Optix RGB LEDs provide adjustable lighting through the optional Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB controller and RF Connect app. Deutsch and Amphenol connections are integrated into the basket to support organized, marine-oriented connectivity. The lighting system is separate from the audio signal path, allowing sound-system and lighting-system planning to be handled independently.

For life around water, the M2D2-12S combines an Element Ready design with IP67 certification. Its UV-stable ASA frame and grille components, UV-inhibited polypropylene cone, corrosion-resistant terminals, and sealed connectors address the exposure common to marine installations. It fits naturally into a Rockford Fosgate Color Optix system when coordinated lighting and marine-specific hardware are priorities.

Design & Installation

The M2D2-12S uses an injection-molded, mineral-filled polypropylene cone with UV inhibitors, a synthetic-fiber-blend spider, and a UV-stable ASA plastic frame and grille structure. Its VAST surround design increases effective cone area, while gold-plated marine-grade brass terminals and sealed Deutsch/Amphenol connections support corrosion-resistant installation practices. The supplied grille system allows a stainless-steel mesh or white Sport insert to be fitted over the white subwoofer assembly.

Install the subwoofer in a rigid, airtight sealed enclosure with approximately 0.75 cubic feet of internal volume and allow for its 11-inch cutout and 4.87-inch mounting depth. Use the VersaSwitch setting that matches the amplifier's supported impedance, and select an amplifier capable of delivering power appropriate for its 400-watt RMS rating. RGB lighting requires the separately sold PMX-RGB Color Optix controller and the RF Connect app; the LED circuit uses its own harness and recommended 1-amp fuse.
