The Rockford Fosgate M2D2-12IB is a 12-inch marine subwoofer designed for infinite-baffle installations, where a traditional subwoofer enclosure is not practical. It adds dedicated low-frequency output to boats and other exposed applications while preserving usable storage space. A properly isolated mounting baffle separates the front and rear sound waves to help prevent bass cancellation.

This dual-voice-coil model handles 400 watts RMS and is built for listeners who want substantial bass from a marine-ready system. Its 12-inch mineral-filled polypropylene cone, VAST surround, and long-excursion design support controlled low-frequency reproduction. The design is optimized for open-air or infinite-baffle mounting rather than requiring a sealed box.

A VersaSwitch on the subwoofer simplifies impedance selection between 1 ohm and 4 ohms, helping match the woofer to a compatible marine amplifier. This makes system planning more flexible without requiring separate series or parallel wiring at the voice coils. Select the impedance setting that is appropriate for the amplifier and overall system load.

Integrated Color Optix RGB lighting adds illumination behind the grille for a coordinated marine-audio installation. The lighting system connects through integrated Deutsch/Amphenol-style connections and can be used with the optional Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB controller and RF Connect app. The controller is sold separately.

The M2D2-12IB is part of Rockford Fosgate's Element Ready marine lineup, with an IP67-rated construction intended for exposure to water, salt, and UV conditions. It is suited to marine dashboards, seating bases, storage cavities, and other locations that can provide the required front-to-rear acoustic separation. Design & Installation

The M2D2-12IB uses an ultra-high-temperature injection-molded frame, mineral-filled polypropylene cone, UV-stable foam surround, aramid-polyester composite spider, insulated silicone tinsel leads, and marine-grade brass terminals. Its black finish is complemented by grille customization options, while the RGB lighting is enclosed in optically clear UV-stable material. The VAST surround increases effective radiating cone area without increasing the nominal speaker size.

Use the specified 11-inch cutout and allow approximately 5.13 inches of mounting depth. For infinite-baffle installation, mount the subwoofer in a rigid baffle that isolates front and rear waves, and use an infrasonic filter at or above the subwoofer's resonant frequency. For RGB operation, use the PMX-RGB controller or follow the manufacturer hard-wiring guidance with a fused 9-16V supply; Rockford Fosgate recommends at least 20-gauge wire for hard-wired Color Optix lighting.
