Rockford Fosgate M1D2-12B 12" RGB Marine Subwoofer

The Rockford Fosgate M1D2-12B is a 12-inch marine subwoofer designed to add dedicated low-frequency output to a boat or powersports audio system. Its dual 2-ohm voice-coil design uses an integrated VersaSwitch to provide a 1-ohm or 4-ohm final impedance option. This helps simplify matching the subwoofer to a compatible amplifier without changing internal voice-coil wiring.

Rated for 300 watts RMS and 1,200 watts peak, the M1D2-12B is intended for systems that need stronger bass support than full-range marine speakers can provide alone. Its 20 Hz to 750 Hz frequency response and 92 dB sensitivity support low-end reinforcement in an appropriately configured system. Use an active low-pass crossover to direct bass frequencies to the subwoofer.

Color Optix RGB lighting is integrated into the subwoofer for illuminated marine-system installations. When paired with the separately sold Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB Color Optix controller, lighting can be controlled through the RF Connect app. The included Color Optix harness supports the lighting connection, while the subwoofer also supports fixed-color hardwiring when installed correctly.

The M1D2-12B is built for exposed marine environments with an Element Ready design and IP67 certification. Its UV-stable polypropylene cone, Santoprene VAST surround, UV-stable ASA frame and grille, and marine-grade terminals are selected for marine use. A vented motor with a water-repelling nano-coated mesh screen supports the weather-resistant design.

For system upgrades, this subwoofer can be installed in a sealed, vented, or infinite-baffle-style application when the enclosure and filtering are designed for the installation. The 10.85-inch cutout diameter and 6.65-inch mounting depth should be checked before cutting a mounting surface. It is sold individually with a fixed Sport grille, Color Optix harness, mounting hardware, and installation documentation.

Design & Installation

The M1D2-12B uses an injection-molded mineral-filled polypropylene cone with UV inhibitors, a co-molded Santoprene VAST surround, and linear synthetic-fiber-blend spiders. Its black ASA frame and fixed Sport grille are UV stable, while zinc-nickel-plated marine-grade brass terminals and insulated silicone tinsel leads support marine-system durability. The vented motor includes a water-repelling nano-coated mesh screen, and the integrated connectors are designed to streamline audio and lighting connections.

Verify the 10.85-inch cutout and 6.65-inch mounting depth before installation. Match the selected 1-ohm or 4-ohm VersaSwitch setting to an amplifier rated for that load, and use an active 80-100 Hz low-pass crossover for subwoofer duty. For RGB control, add the separately sold PMX-RGB controller; when hardwiring lighting, use a fused 12-volt source, a minimum 20 AWG wire, and do not connect the lighting directly to 24-volt electrical systems.
