Rockford Fosgate M1D2-12 12" RGB Marine Subwoofer

The Rockford Fosgate M1D2-12 is a 12-inch marine subwoofer designed to add dedicated low-frequency output to boat and powersports audio systems. Its white grille and integrated Color Optix RGB lighting provide a coordinated appearance for installations where visible audio equipment is part of the design. It is sold individually.

This subwoofer uses dual 2-ohm voice coils and a built-in VersaSwitch that selects a 1-ohm or 4-ohm nominal load. That simplifies matching the subwoofer to a compatible amplifier without rewiring the dual voice coils externally. Its 300-watt RMS rating makes it suitable for systems built around a properly matched marine amplifier.

The M1D2-12 is engineered for bass reproduction from 20 Hz to 750 Hz, with a 92 dB sensitivity rating and a 26 Hz free-air resonance frequency. A 2-inch high-temperature Kapton voice-coil former, vented motor structure, and linear synthetic fiber blend spiders support controlled operation. Its VAST surround design increases effective cone area compared with conventional surround attachment methods.

For marine and off-road environments, the M1D2-12 carries an IP67 rating and uses UV-stable materials in its frame, grille, and cone construction. The injection-molded mineral-filled polypropylene cone includes UV inhibitors, while the Santoprene surround and insulated silicone tinsel leads are selected for outdoor-duty use. A water-repelling nano-coated mesh screen protects the vented motor design.

Integrated Color Optix RGB LEDs allow the subwoofer to become part of a compatible illuminated audio system. Lighting control requires the separately sold Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB Color Optix controller and the RF Connect app. Integrated Deutsch and Amphenol connectivity is intended to streamline compatible audio and lighting connections in a marine installation.

Design & Installation

The M1D2-12 combines a white UV-stable ASA plastic frame and grille with an injection-molded mineral-filled polypropylene cone. Its Santoprene VAST surround, high-temperature Kapton voice-coil former, zinc-nickel-plated marine-grade brass terminals, and nano-coated motor mesh support use in marine and motorsports environments. A removable protective grille is included.

Plan for a 10.85-inch cutout diameter and 6.65-inch mounting depth before installation. Use an amplifier rated appropriately for the selected 1-ohm or 4-ohm VersaSwitch setting, and consult the amplifier documentation for its minimum supported impedance. For RGB lighting control, add the separately sold PMX-RGB controller and configure compatible lighting through the RF Connect app.
