PreSonus QUANTUM-ES4 4x4 USB-C Audio Interface

The PreSonus Quantum ES 4 is a 4-in / 4-out USB-C audio interface for recording musicians, producers, podcasters, and other creators. It connects microphones, instruments, line-level sources, headphones, and studio monitors to a USB-C-equipped recording setup. With 24-bit / 192 kHz operation, it provides a capable front end for tracking, monitoring, and playback.

Four MAX-HD microphone preamps provide up to 75 dB of gain for microphones used in vocal, instrument, voiceover, and multi-source sessions. The preamps use digitally controlled analog gain and are specified for low noise and transparent capture. Four combo-style input connections accommodate balanced microphone and line-level sources, while dedicated instrument inputs support direct guitar and bass recording.

The Quantum ES 4 is designed for clear monitoring as well as recording. Its main and line outputs use 1/4-inch TRS connections for powered monitors and outboard routing, and two independent 1/4-inch headphone outputs support personal monitoring. Bright LED metering gives at-a-glance feedback for input and output levels during a session.

An Auto Gain function helps establish input level settings for connected microphones and instruments. The illuminated push encoder provides hands-on control of gain and output volume from the interface itself. Preamp controls, phantom power, and metering can also be accessed through PreSonus Universal Control and Fender Studio Pro software.

For a compact desktop studio, the Quantum ES 4 can serve as the central connection point between a computer, microphones, instruments, MIDI gear, headphones, and powered speakers. USB-C provides digital audio connectivity, while the 3.5 mm Type-B MIDI I/O connection supports compatible MIDI devices with the appropriate breakout connections. Hardware registration includes a perpetual Fender Studio Pro license for recording and production work.

Design & Installation

The Quantum ES 4 uses a compact black desktop format measuring 8.4 inches wide, 6.2 inches deep, and 1.9 inches high. Its front-facing instrument and headphone connections support convenient access, while the top-panel encoder, Auto Gain control, and LED metering keep common tracking adjustments within reach. The interface weighs 1.8 pounds for practical placement on a desk or mobile recording workstation.

Connect the interface to a compatible USB-C host using the included 1.5 m USB-C to USB-C cable, then connect microphones, line-level sources, instruments, powered monitors, and headphones as needed. Use balanced 1/4-inch TRS cables for compatible monitor and line-output connections. If the connected USB-C host cannot supply sufficient power, the auxiliary USB-C power connection requires a separate USB-C to USB-C cable and a 5 VDC, 2.6 A power source.
