The PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 25th Anniversary is a compact 2x2 USB audio interface for recording microphones, instruments, and MIDI-equipped hardware with a computer. It gives musicians, podcasters, and mobile creators dedicated audio connections that typical computer ports do not provide. Two front-panel combo inputs make it practical to record a vocal and guitar, two microphones, or other compatible sources at the same time.

Its Class-A microphone preamps and 24-bit/96 kHz conversion are designed for clear capture and playback in a small desktop or portable setup. Individual input gain controls and clip indicators help users set recording levels before distortion reaches the converter. The analog Mix control blends live inputs with computer playback for direct, zero-latency monitoring while tracking.

Each combo input accepts a balanced XLR microphone connection or an unbalanced 1/4-inch TS instrument connection. Global +48V phantom power supports compatible condenser microphones, while the instrument inputs accommodate direct guitar and bass connections. MIDI input and output ports also allow communication with compatible controllers, drum machines, and synthesizers.

For monitoring, the AudioBox USB 96 provides a 1/4-inch stereo headphone output plus a pair of balanced 1/4-inch main outputs for powered monitors or other line-level equipment. Its headphone amplifier is rated at 60 mW per channel into a 60-ohm load. USB bus power keeps the setup simple by eliminating the need for a separate external power supply.

The 25th Anniversary edition uses a black finish and a rugged steel chassis suited to desktop, rehearsal, and travel use. It connects through USB 2.0 and is compatible with USB 3.0 ports. Hardware registration includes a six-month Fender Studio Pro trial, providing a software starting point for recording projects.

Design & Installation

The AudioBox USB 96 is built around a compact 1/3U steel chassis with a black 25th Anniversary finish. Front-panel controls place input trims, clip indicators, phantom-power switching, input/playback mixing, headphone level, and main-output level within easy reach. The enclosure measures 5.5 inches wide by 5.5 inches high by 1.75 inches deep.

Connect the included USB cable between the interface and a compatible computer, then attach microphones by XLR or passive instruments by 1/4-inch TS cable. Connect powered monitors to the balanced 1/4-inch main outputs and headphones to the 1/4-inch stereo output for monitoring. Enable +48V only when required by compatible condenser microphones, as the phantom-power switch operates globally across both microphone inputs.
