The Memphis PRX1224 is a 12-inch component car subwoofer designed to add controlled low-frequency output to a custom vehicle audio system. It is intended for use with an external amplifier and a properly sized sealed or ported enclosure. Its selectable 2-ohm or 4-ohm configuration helps simplify impedance matching when planning a single-subwoofer system or a future multi-subwoofer upgrade.

With a 300-watt RMS power rating and 600-watt peak rating, the PRX1224 is suited to moderate-power bass systems where dependable daily listening is the goal. Its 30-150 Hz frequency-response rating covers the bass range commonly handled by a dedicated subwoofer. A 12-inch driver format gives installers flexibility for trunk, hatch, and larger under-seat enclosure designs where mounting depth permits.

The selectable-impedance terminal arrangement uses included jumper wires to present either a 2-ohm or 4-ohm load to the amplifier. This lets the installer adapt the subwoofer to the amplifier's supported load without changing the driver. The rated power handling remains 300 watts RMS in either impedance setting.

Memphis equips the PRX1224 with DVVC Direct Voice Coil Cooling technology, a high-temperature TIL voice-coil former, and improved suspension and coil design. These elements are intended to support consistent operation under sustained bass playback. The driver also uses woven tinsel leads and a reinforced spider shoulder as part of its moving assembly.

A black-on-black polypropylene cone and double-stitched butyl rubber surround give the subwoofer a purposeful, durable appearance. The PRX1224 can be used in a 1.25-cubic-foot sealed enclosure for a compact, controlled system or a 2.75-cubic-foot ported enclosure for a larger enclosure design. It is a component subwoofer, so an amplifier, enclosure, wiring, and installation hardware must be selected separately.

Key Features

  • Selectable 2Ω or 4Ω Load: Included jumpers let installers match the subwoofer to compatible amplifier loads.
  • 300W RMS Handling: Supports amplifier matching around its continuous power rating.
  • DVVC Cooling: Direct Voice Coil Cooling helps manage heat during extended bass playback.
  • 12-Inch Driver: Provides dedicated low-frequency reproduction for custom vehicle audio systems.
  • Polypropylene Cone: Black-on-black cone construction supports a clean, coordinated appearance.
  • Butyl Rubber Surround: Double-stitched surround supports controlled cone movement and durability.

Design & Installation

The PRX1224 combines a black polypropylene cone with a double-stitched butyl rubber surround, reinforced spider shoulder, woven tinsel leads, and a high-temperature TIL voice-coil former. Its 60-ounce magnet and 2-inch voice-coil diameter support the driver architecture. A rubber trim ring/gasket is installed on the subwoofer, while a grille is not included.

Plan for an approximately 5.5-inch top-mount depth and an 11-inch cutout. Use the included jumper wires to configure the driver for either 2 ohms or 4 ohms before connecting it to an amplifier, and confirm that the amplifier is stable at the chosen impedance. Memphis lists 1.25 cubic feet as the ideal sealed enclosure volume and 2.75 cubic feet as the ideal ported enclosure volume.
