Memphis Audio SMCHLA Hideaway Media Controller

The Memphis Audio SMCHLA is a compact hideaway media controller designed to provide core head-unit functions without requiring a conventional dash-mounted radio. It is intended for powersports vehicles, marine applications, classic cars, and other builds where mounting space is limited or preserving the dashboard matters. The control module can be concealed while the included wired rotary remote provides accessible everyday operation.

Audio can be played from AUX, Bluetooth, AM, FM, Weather Band, or USB sources. The SMCHLA includes a 50W x 4 built-in amplifier for a basic four-speaker system and also provides RCA outputs for expanded systems using external amplifiers. This makes it suitable for straightforward installations as well as multi-zone setups that need more system flexibility.

The Memphis Command app for iOS and Android provides wireless access to source selection, radio presets, EQ settings, balance, fade, RGB lighting, trigger outputs, and zone controls. A 7-band custom EQ and adjustable crossover settings help tailor the system to the speakers and listening areas being used. The app also supports manual, seek, and preset radio-search functions.

A wired four-button rotary remote is included for installations that need physical controls in addition to phone-based operation. Its illuminated buttons and RGB source-indicating rotary knob provide visible source feedback, while the soft key can operate RGB lighting or Trigger 1. The remote is designed to fit a standard Carling or rocker-switch cutout for a clean integrated appearance.

The SMCHLA is built for environments where moisture, dust, vibration, and limited mounting space are common considerations. Its diecast aluminum chassis and conformal-coated PCB carry an IP66 rating, and the wired remote is also IP66 rated. With four programmable relay trigger outputs, RGB LED control, and multiple preamp outputs, it can serve as the central controller for an audio-and-accessory upgrade.

Design & Installation

The SMCHLA uses a compact diecast aluminum main chassis with a conformal-coated PCB and IP66 environmental rating. Its included wired remote is also IP66 rated, with illuminated buttons and a rotary knob that changes color to indicate the selected source. The remote is sized for a standard Carling or rocker-switch cutout, helping retain a tidy, factory-style control location.

Install the hideaway module in a protected location that allows sufficient clearance for its wiring and connections; the installation information lists a 90 mm mounting-depth consideration. Connect vehicle power, ground, ignition, speaker leads, antenna, USB, and desired RCA, RGB, and trigger connections as needed for the system. The unit can run four speakers from its internal amplifier or act as the control source for external amplifiers, a subwoofer channel, accessories, and compatible RGB lighting.
