Rockford Fosgate PMX-1 Compact Marine Media Receiver

The Rockford Fosgate PMX-1 is a compact digital media receiver designed for marine and powersports audio systems where space and weather resistance matter. It combines AM, FM, and weather-band radio with Bluetooth, USB, and AUX playback in a round-mount chassis. This makes it a practical choice for boats, UTVs, ATVs, and other outdoor installations that do not need a conventional DIN-size radio.

Its built-in four-channel amplifier supplies 25 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms, with up to 50 watts per channel at 2 ohms. That output can operate compatible speakers directly in a compact system, while RCA preamp outputs support adding external amplification. Independent subwoofer-level control also makes it easier to adjust bass output from the receiver.

The PMX-1 uses a 2.3-inch full dot-matrix LCD protected by a wet-bonded, 9H tempered-glass screen. The bonded display construction is intended to help maintain readability in changing outdoor lighting conditions while helping keep dust and moisture away from the display assembly. White LED button illumination and a rotary encoder provide straightforward control at the dash.

Bluetooth 3.0+EDR with A2DP and AVRCP supports wireless music streaming and playback control from compatible devices. A rear USB 2.0 connection supports MP3 and WMA media playback plus 1-amp device charging, while the RCA AUX input accommodates an additional analog source. The receiver also includes a multi-region AM/FM/WB tuner with dedicated preset storage.

For system tuning, the PMX-1 provides a 7-band graphic EQ, parametric EQ, selectable high-pass, low-pass, and all-pass crossover modes, and 12 or 24 dB-per-octave crossover slopes. Its Element Ready construction and IPX6-rated front panel are suited to exposed marine and off-road environments. The compact 3-inch mounting cutout helps it fit locations where a larger receiver is impractical.

Design & Installation

The PMX-1 is built around a compact round-mount format with a water-resistant rotary encoder, white LED controls, and a scratch-resistant optically bonded display. Its front panel carries an IPX6 water-intrusion rating, while the Element Ready design addresses outdoor environmental exposure. The 9H tempered-glass screen adds protection for the display surface.

Installation requires a 3-inch rear-panel cutout and 12-volt electrical system. Use compatible speakers with a minimum 2-ohm impedance for the internal amplifier, or connect external amplifiers through the 2-volt front and rear/sub RCA outputs. USB, AUX, antenna, power, speaker, and optional remote-control connections should be planned before mounting; the optional PMX-BTUR remote is sold separately.
