Rockford Fosgate PMX-8BB Hide-Away Marine Media Receiver

The Rockford Fosgate PMX-8BB is a hide-away marine digital media receiver designed to place source control and audio processing out of sight. Its black-box format is suited to boats, powersports installations, and other custom systems where a conventional dash-mounted receiver is impractical. It is designed for use with a compatible wired control/display solution, including the PMX-8DH.

This receiver brings AM, FM, and Weather Band tuning together with Bluetooth audio, USB media playback, auxiliary input capability, and SiriusXM readiness. It gives installers a centralized source component for systems that need multiple listening areas. Dual USB inputs and video playback support add flexibility for compatible media devices.

The PMX-8BB is built for controlled, system-oriented sound rather than a simple single-zone setup. It supports two-source control and independent volume management across four zones, helping separate areas of a vessel or vehicle receive appropriate playback levels. Dedicated zone processing, a 7-band graphic EQ, and Punch EQ allow the system to be tuned around speaker placement and installation conditions.

Its onboard amplifier supplies 25 watts RMS to each of four channels at 4 ohms, while 4-volt RCA outputs support external amplification. Zone 1 and Zone 2 provide front, rear, and subwoofer preouts, while Zones 3 and 4 provide two-channel preouts. Selectable high-pass and low-pass crossover settings with 12 dB or 24 dB slopes help integrate full-range speakers and subwoofers.

The PMX-8BB is engineered for marine exposure with an IPX5 water-intrusion rating and a conformal-coated circuit board. CANbus capability enables connection to compatible NMEA 2000 Multi-Function Display systems through the optional PMX-CAN interface. It can also be expanded with compatible Rockford Fosgate wired remotes for a distributed-control installation.

Design & Installation

The PMX-8BB uses a compact black-box chassis that can be mounted away from the helm or dashboard, keeping the main electronics protected and concealed. Its conformal-coated PCB and IPX5 water-intrusion rating are intended for marine conditions. There is no integrated display on the receiver itself, so operation is handled through a compatible remote or display controller.

Install the receiver in a dry, secure location with room for the wiring harness, RCA cables, USB connections, antenna connection, and optional accessories. Use the PMX-8DH for full-function display control, or select from compatible PMX-1R and PMX-0R wired remotes; the system supports up to three wired remotes with 100 feet of total wired distance. For NMEA 2000 display integration, add the separately available PMX-CAN interface and confirm compatibility with the target MFD.
