Mackie DRM18S 18" Powered PA Subwoofer

The Mackie DRM18S is an 18-inch powered professional PA subwoofer designed to add low-frequency support to a live sound system. Its integrated Class-D amplifier and onboard processing eliminate the need for a separate subwoofer amplifier or external crossover. It is intended for mobile DJs, musicians, event providers, houses of worship, venues, and installed sound applications.

This subwoofer is built for systems that need more low-end extension and output than full-range loudspeakers can provide alone. It covers a specified frequency range of 30 Hz to 120 Hz at -10 dB, helping reinforce kick drums, bass instruments, playback tracks, and program material. With a maximum peak SPL rating of 135 dB, it is suited to professional applications where controlled bass output is required.

The DRM18S uses an 18-inch ferrite woofer in a ported plywood enclosure. Its Advanced Impulse DSP processing is designed to help maintain consistent acoustic performance at higher output levels. Built-in limiting and thermal protection help protect the amplifier and transducer during operation.

Mackie's DRM Control Dashboard places setup functions on a rear-panel, full-color TFT display controlled by a single rotary encoder. Users can adjust level, polarity, crossover mode, cardioid orientation, alignment delay, display settings, and stored configurations from the cabinet. Six user memory locations allow settings to be saved and recalled for repeat setups.

Dual input channels, direct outputs, and high-pass outputs make the DRM18S practical for building compact PA systems with powered top speakers. Use the DRM Top crossover mode when pairing it with compatible Mackie DRM loudspeakers, or select a variable crossover for other full-range speakers. Multiple DRM18S units can also be configured for cardioid operation to direct more low-frequency energy toward the audience area.

Design & Installation

The DRM18S uses an 18 mm plywood cabinet with internal bracing, a black Polyurea finish, and a powder-coated 16-18 gauge perforated-steel grille. One handle is fitted to each side for transport. The rectangular enclosure weighs 90.0 lb and includes integrated M10 mounting points for approved flying applications.

Connect balanced XLR or 1/4-inch line-level sources to either input channel, then use the balanced high-pass outputs to feed full-range powered loudspeakers. The cabinet includes an M20 threaded pole attachment for a compatible loudspeaker pole and is designed for floor placement or professional rigging with appropriate hardware. For flown installation, use qualified rigging personnel and approved load-rated hardware; do not suspend the cabinet by its handles.
