The Mackie THUMP115S is a self-powered 15-inch PA subwoofer designed to add low-frequency support to a live sound system. It is intended for DJs, performers, venues, and event setups that need more bass extension than full-range speakers alone can provide. Its built-in amplifier eliminates the need to match and carry a separate external subwoofer amplifier.
With a 1400-watt peak Class-D amplifier and a 15-inch ferrite woofer, the THUMP115S is built for amplified music playback and live-performance reinforcement. Mackie specifies a maximum peak sound pressure level of 131 dB. The subwoofer's published frequency response extends down to 36 Hz, helping it reproduce kick drums, bass instruments, and electronic music fundamentals.
Selectable high-pass modes let the THUMP115S adapt its response to the rest of the PA system. Flat provides a balanced default response, while Deep emphasizes lower bass extension and Punch prioritizes higher output. A Variable mode provides adjustable crossover selection from 80 Hz to 160 Hz for matching a wider range of top speakers.
Stereo balanced XLR inputs support connection from a mixer or other line-level source. Stereo high-pass XLR outputs can feed powered top speakers while routing low frequencies to the subwoofer, and stereo full-range outputs can pass signals to additional equipment. A stereo/mono full-range output option also supports practical multi-subwoofer deployment.
The THUMP115S is a professional PA subwoofer rather than a conventional 12-volt car-audio subwoofer. It uses AC mains power and balanced XLR audio connections, making it appropriate for portable PA, DJ, stage, and installed sound applications with compatible line-level equipment. Its integrated M20 threaded pole mount can support a compatible speaker pole for positioning top speakers above the subwoofer.
Key Features
- 15-Inch Ferrite Woofer: Produces dedicated low-frequency output for PA systems.
- 1400W Peak Class-D Amplifier: Provides built-in powered operation without an external amp.
- Four High-Pass Modes: Flat, Deep, Punch, and Variable options tailor system behavior.
- Variable 80–160 Hz Crossover: Helps match the subwoofer with compatible top speakers.
- Stereo XLR Connectivity: Supports balanced inputs plus high-pass and full-range outputs.
- Protection Circuitry: Limiting and thermal safeguards help protect the amplifier and driver.
Design & Installation
The THUMP115S uses a compact powered-subwoofer format with integrated top-corner carrying handles and a 15-inch ferrite low-frequency driver. Its Class-D amplifier uses convection cooling, and the front power LED can be switched off when a less visible stage appearance is preferred. The cabinet includes an integrated M20-threaded pole mount for a compatible loudspeaker pole.
Place the subwoofer on a stable floor or stage surface; it is not designed for suspension or for mounting the subwoofer itself on a pole. Connect balanced line-level signals from a mixer to the XLR inputs, then use the high-pass outputs to feed compatible powered top speakers when desired. Use the Variable crossover setting from 80 Hz to 160 Hz when matching the system manually, and leave clearance behind the cabinet for ventilation.

Is the THUMP115S a car-audio subwoofer?
No. It is a powered professional PA subwoofer that uses AC mains power and balanced XLR line-level connections. It is not a typical 12-volt vehicle subwoofer system.
What do I need to connect it to a PA system?
You need a line-level source such as a mixer or compatible audio device with XLR output. Connect the source to the THUMP115S XLR inputs, then connect powered top speakers from the high-pass outputs if needed.
Can I use the THUMP115S with only one subwoofer or LFE output?
Yes. Mackie states that a single subwoofer or LFE output may be connected to either input A or input B. Do not connect a power amplifier speaker output directly to the subwoofer input.
Can I connect additional subwoofers?
Yes. The full-range XLR outputs can pass the input signal to another powered subwoofer or other compatible equipment. The full-range outputs can operate in stereo or as a mono sum.
Can the subwoofer be suspended or pole-mounted?
No. The THUMP115S is designed to sit on a floor or stage and has no rigging points. Its M20 threaded mount is for supporting a compatible pole-mounted top speaker above the subwoofer.
What is included with the subwoofer?
The owner’s manual confirms that a detachable IEC power cord is included in the packaging. Audio cables, a speaker pole, and the optional Thump115S cover are not specified as included.
