The Cerwin-Vega V15DV4 is a 15-inch VEGA Series car audio subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils. It is designed for systems that need substantial low-frequency output from a single large-format driver. Its 1,500-watt RMS power rating makes it suited to a properly matched external amplifier and enclosure.

This subwoofer is a fit for enthusiasts building a bass-focused vehicle audio system with flexible wiring requirements. The dual 4-ohm coil arrangement can present either a 2-ohm parallel load or an 8-ohm series load to a compatible amplifier. Both voice coils should be connected to the amplification source.

The V15DV4 has a 31 Hz resonant frequency, 90 dB sensitivity, and 10 mm Xmax. These published parameters support enclosure planning and amplifier matching. Cerwin-Vega specifies 1,500 watts nominal power handling and 4,500 watts maximum power handling.

A hybrid carbon fiber and polypropylene cone forms the moving assembly, while the stitch-reinforced Santoprene surround supports excursion. The driver uses a strong ferrite motor structure and a 4-inch voice coil. A vented pole piece is included to provide additional cooling during extended play.

The V15DV4 can be used in either sealed or ported enclosure designs published by Cerwin-Vega. The manufacturer lists a 4.0 cu. ft. sealed enclosure and a 5.0 cu. ft. ported enclosure as design references. Its single-terminal connection and impedance selector are intended to simplify connection of the dual voice coils within a compatible system.

Design & Installation

The V15DV4 uses a cast aluminum Vega basket, a ferrite ceramic magnet, a Santoprene surround, and a hybrid carbon fiber/polypropylene diaphragm. Its 4-inch voice coil and vented pole piece are part of the driver’s high-power design. The overall diameter is 15.61 inches, and overall height is 9.33 inches.

Allow for an 8.46-inch mounting depth and a 13.86-inch cutout diameter when planning an enclosure. For wiring, dual 4-ohm coils create a 2-ohm load in parallel or an 8-ohm load in series, so the amplifier must be stable at the selected load. Cerwin-Vega’s ported enclosure guidance also recommends a subsonic filter set to a minimum of 30 Hz.
