The Hertz SS 15 D2 is a 15-inch SPL-oriented car subwoofer engineered for high-output bass systems. Its dual 2-ohm voice-coil design gives installers wiring flexibility when matching the subwoofer to a suitable amplifier. It is intended for custom enclosure installations rather than direct factory-replacement use.

With 1200 watts RMS continuous power handling and 2400 watts peak power handling, the SS 15 D2 is designed for systems that require substantial low-frequency output. The large 380 mm cone and 88 dB sensitivity support strong bass performance in properly designed enclosures. It is a practical fit for enthusiasts building a dedicated amplified bass section.

The 75 mm (3-inch) dual voice coil uses a four-layer winding on a vented former to support heat management during demanding use. A large ferrite magnet assembly provides the motor strength needed to control the moving assembly. The result is a subwoofer built around power handling, excursion capability, and mechanical durability.

Its non-pressed paper cone includes cotton fiber to balance low moving mass with rigidity, while the multilayer foam surround supports long cone travel. The progressive double-layer spider helps maintain consistent suspension behavior over time. Hertz rates maximum linear excursion at 15.4 mm.

The SS 15 D2 can be used in either sealed or reflex enclosures based on the desired system design. Hertz publishes an 80 L sealed enclosure alignment and a 120 L reflex enclosure alignment tuned to 38 Hz. Pair it with an amplifier and enclosure engineered for the selected final impedance and available vehicle space.

The SS 15 D2 combines a non-pressed paper cone with cotton fiber, a multilayer foam surround, oversized suspension components, and reinforced leadwires. Its ferrite motor measures 180 x 90 x 40 mm, and the driver has a total mounting depth of 210 mm. The basket is designed to support thermal dissipation and mechanical strength in high-output installations.

Plan for a 353 mm (13.9-inch) mounting cutout and 188 mm (7.4-inch) installation opening depth, plus clearance behind the driver. Hertz specifies 80 L (2.83 cu. ft.) for its sealed design or 120 L (4.24 cu. ft.) for its reflex design, using 19 mm (0.75-inch) enclosure material. Wire the dual coils according to the amplifier's supported load and use speaker cable up to 12 AWG at the push terminals.
