Hifonics HCM-400.4D Four-Channel Class D Amplifier
$218.00
AUDIO360 AD4C 4 Gauge Amplifier Wiring Kit
$50.00
The Hifonics COLOSSUS MINI HCM-400.4D is a compact four-channel amplifier designed to add dedicated power to a vehicle audio system without requiring a large mounting area. Its full-range Class-D design supports applications in cars, motorcycles, and UTVs. It provides four channels for powering speakers or can be configured for bridged operation.
This amplifier is suited to installers upgrading factory or aftermarket speaker systems where space is limited. It can power four speakers at up to 50 watts per channel at 4 ohms or 100 watts per channel at 2 ohms. For systems needing two higher-power channels, it supports two-channel bridged operation at 4 ohms.
The HCM-400.4D has a 10Hz-25kHz frequency response, allowing it to cover bass, midrange, and high-frequency duties in a full-range system. Variable high-pass and low-pass filters help tailor each channel pair to the speakers being used. Its adjustable 0.2-5V input sensitivity supports integration with a range of source-unit signal levels.
Hifonics uses a mass-loaded extruded aluminum heat sink to manage heat without fan cooling. Ultra-Fi MOSFET output devices, an air-core transformer, and multilayer PCB construction are part of the amplifier's compact design. Protection circuitry monitors over-voltage, under-voltage, short-circuit, and thermal conditions.
The amplifier can serve as the power stage for a four-speaker upgrade, or it can be bridged for a mixed system using two channels. Speaker-level inputs support integration where a dedicated RCA preamp signal is not available. A delayed turn-on function and included bass remote add useful setup and day-to-day control options.
Key Features
- Four-Channel Class-D Design: Powers up to four speakers from a compact amplifier chassis.
- 50W x 4 at 4 Ohms: Provides dedicated power for compatible four-speaker systems.
- 2-Ohm Capability: Delivers up to 100 watts per channel at 2 ohms.
- Bridged Operation: Configures as two 200-watt channels at 4 ohms.
- Variable Crossovers: Helps match the amplifier output to speaker roles.
- Triple Protection Circuits: Monitors voltage, short-circuit, and thermal operating conditions.
Design & Installation
The HCM-400.4D uses a black, mass-loaded extruded aluminum heat sink with CNC-machined aluminum Hifonics and Colossus badges. Nickel-plated RCA jacks are designed for corrosion-resistant signal connections, while molded angled terminals organize power, ground, and speaker wiring. The amplifier measures 9.3 inches long, 5.28 inches wide, and 2.72 inches high.
Mount the amplifier on a secure surface with adequate ventilation and do not mount it upside down. The manufacturer specifies 4 AWG power and ground terminals, 12 AWG speaker terminals, and an external 40A fuse; the power cable should be fused within 18 inches of the battery. Use the high-pass and low-pass controls to match the connected speakers, set gain carefully to the source unit, and use only a 4-ohm load when bridging channels.
