Crunch CRA-950.4 Four-Channel Class D Car Amplifier

The Crunch CRA-950.4 is a four-channel Class D car amplifier made to add dedicated power to a vehicle audio system. It can be used to drive front and rear full-range speakers, or configured in bridged pairs for higher-output applications. Its four-channel layout gives installers flexibility when planning a speaker-focused system upgrade.

Rated for 115 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms and 235 watts RMS per channel at 2 ohms, the CRA-950.4 is suited to compatible aftermarket speakers that need more power than a head unit can supply. It also supports two-channel bridged operation at 4 ohms, rated at 475 watts RMS per bridged channel. This makes it practical for systems that combine full-range speakers with a bridged subwoofer channel arrangement.

The amplifier uses an efficient Class D topology designed to reduce current draw and heat compared with less-efficient amplifier designs. Its switch-mode power supply is intended to maintain stable amplifier operation as vehicle voltage changes. Crunch SPEED-FET MOSFET output devices and a low-noise preamplifier circuit support controlled amplification with minimal distortion.

Built-in electronic crossover controls help tailor the signal sent to each speaker group. Adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters cover a 40 Hz to 400 Hz range, allowing installers to limit bass sent to smaller speakers or direct bass-focused channels toward compatible subwoofers. Separate crossover sections for the channel pairs allow system tuning around the speakers being used.

The CRA-950.4 accepts both RCA low-level and speaker-level input signals, supporting integration with many aftermarket and factory audio systems. DC signal-sensing turn-on can simplify installation when using high-level inputs. It is a compact amplifier platform for a properly matched four-speaker system, a mixed mono setup, or a bridged two-channel configuration.

Design & Installation

The CRA-950.4 uses a compact amplifier chassis with an aluminum heat sink designed to disperse heat. Nickel-plated brass connection terminals and screw-down connectors are provided for secure cable connections. A power/protect LED provides basic operating-status indication.

Use 4 AWG power and ground cable as recommended, with an external 50A fuse installed within 18 inches of the battery on the positive power cable. The amplifier should be mounted to a secure, ventilated surface and not upside down. Match each channel to the correct speaker impedance: 2 ohms minimum per unbridged channel or 4 ohms minimum per bridged channel.
