Audison APK 165 6.5" 2-Way Component Speaker System

The Audison APK 165 is a 4-ohm, 6.5-inch two-way component speaker system designed for upgrading factory front-stage audio. It combines an AP 6.5 woofer, AP 1 tweeter, APCX TW passive crossover, and included grilles. The system is intended for installations where separate woofer and tweeter locations can improve staging and detail over a basic full-range door speaker.

With 100 watts continuous power handling and 300 watts peak power handling, the APK 165 is suited to systems using an appropriate external amplifier or compatible amplified source. Its 60 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response covers the main midbass and high-frequency range for a component front stage. The woofer's 93.5 dB SPL specification supports effective output from moderate-power car-audio amplification.

The AP 6.5 woofer uses a 32 mm pure-copper voice coil, a water-repellent treated paper cone, and a TPU surround with Audison's shallow Triple Wave profile. This combination is engineered for controlled low-frequency reproduction and linear cone travel. The woofer has a listed maximum linear excursion of ±2.5 mm and an 80 Hz resonant frequency.

The AP 1 tweeter uses a 26 mm diaphragm with a wide-roll surround and an acoustic lens. The lens is designed to help address response effects in the 10 kHz to 13 kHz range that can occur when a tweeter is mounted behind restrictive factory grilles. This makes the system especially relevant for OEM-style mounting locations as well as exposed A-pillar placements.

An APCX TW passive high-pass crossover is included to direct high frequencies to the tweeter. Its selectable 0 dB and +2 dB level settings allow adjustment for different tweeter mounting conditions. The APK 165 can serve as the front component stage in a larger system with rear fill, a dedicated amplifier, DSP processing, and a subwoofer for deeper bass.

Design & Installation

The AP 6.5 woofer uses a compact, abrasion-resistant and scratch-resistant coated basket, with the motor secured using damping epoxy adhesive. Its treated paper cone is paired with a thermoplastic polyurethane surround, while the tweeter incorporates a wide-roll surround and acoustic lens. Included grilles provide an additional finishing option where the speakers are not concealed by factory trim.

Confirm the vehicle's available 165 mm speaker opening, mounting depth, mounting-hole pattern, and tweeter location before installation. Use the supplied passive crossover between the signal source or amplifier and the tweeter, selecting 0 dB for an A-pillar installation without an added grille or +2 dB when the tweeter is installed behind an OEM grille. The woofer's high-current fast-on terminals use double contacts on both positive and negative poles for connection flexibility.
