Mogami GOLD STUDIO-10 10' XLR Microphone Cable $87.95
Bundle total: $374.94

The sE Electronics DYNACASTER DCM 8 is a front-addressed cardioid dynamic microphone designed for broadcast-style voice capture, podcasting, livestreaming, recording, and instrument use. Its XLR-based design suits creators and musicians who use an audio interface, mixer, or microphone preamp rather than a USB microphone. The focused cardioid pickup pattern helps prioritize the source in front of the microphone while reducing pickup from the rear.

For voice work, the DCM 8 is built to provide a close, controlled presentation with onboard tools for adjusting the microphone's tonal starting point. Two recessed acoustic trim switches provide six available EQ configurations for tailoring low- and high-frequency character before software or console processing. This gives users practical adjustment options without requiring an external inline EQ for basic voicing changes.

The microphone includes sE's switchable DYNAMITE preamp, which provides an additional 30 dB of gain when engaged. The active mode requires 48V phantom power and is useful with interfaces or preamps that do not provide ample gain for a typical dynamic microphone. With the preamp switched off, the DCM 8 can be used as a conventional passive dynamic microphone.

A DMC8 dynamic capsule with an aluminum voice coil and neodymium magnet supports a stated 20 Hz to 19 kHz frequency range. The microphone is front-addressed, making it well suited to boom-arm and desk-mounted setups where the speaker addresses the end of the mic. Its integrated capsule shock-absorption system is designed to reduce the need for a separate external shockmount.

The DCM 8 combines several useful recording accessories into its body, including an internal three-layer pop filter and an integrated stand mount with a wide swivel range. The internal pop filter is removable for cleaning, while an external windscreen is also supplied for users who prefer additional wind protection. Its all-metal housing, XLR output, included thread adapter, and boom-arm compatibility make it a practical fit for podcast, streaming, studio, vocal, and instrument-recording systems.

Key Features

  • Switchable DYNAMITE Preamp: Adds 30 dB of gain when powered by 48V phantom power.
  • Cardioid Dynamic Capsule: Focuses on the source in front of the microphone.
  • Six EQ Configurations: Recessed acoustic trim switches tailor low and high frequencies.
  • Integrated Shock Absorption: Helps reduce vibration and handling-related mechanical noise.
  • Three-Layer Pop Filter: Helps control plosives without an external pop filter.
  • Front-Addressed XLR Design: Works with interfaces, mixers, stands, and broadcast boom arms.

Design & Installation

The DCM 8 uses an all-metal housing with a matte black finish, a gold-plated 3-pin male XLR connector, and a black external windscreen. Its front-addressed body incorporates the capsule shock-absorption system, internal pop filter, recessed control switches, and stand mount into one microphone assembly. The rear-mounted controls are recessed to help protect settings during transport and regular use.

Connect the microphone to an audio interface, mixer, or microphone preamp using a balanced XLR-to-XLR microphone cable. Enable 48V phantom power only when using the DYNAMITE preamp; the active preamp mode draws 3.0 mA and requires phantom power delivered through XLR connections. Mount the microphone on a compatible stand or broadcast boom arm using its integrated mount and supplied thread adapter, then position the front of the microphone toward the speaker or sound source.
