The Rockford Fosgate P2D2-8 is an 8-inch dual voice coil subwoofer designed to add controlled low-frequency output to a car audio system without requiring the enclosure space of a larger woofer. Rockford Fosgate equips this subwoofer with a 2.25-inch high-temperature voice coil, a spun-laced Nomex reinforcement collar, and an optimized motor structure with an extended pole piece and bumped vented backplate. The StampCast basket incorporates spider venting intended to promote voice-coil cooling. The P2D2-8 is built around a 16-gauge compound-bend steel frame, dual poly-cotton spiders, an aluminum voice-coil former, and a removable textured PVC motor cover. A die-cast aluminum trim ring is included, and its mounting pattern is designed to accommodate normal installation tolerances. The motor uses a 49-ounce magnet, while the cone assembly uses a Kevlar-reinforced paper-pulp cone, Santoprene surround, and injected polypropylene dustcap.

Allow for a 7.13-inch cutout and 4.76 inches of mounting depth, plus adequate clearance behind the driver for wiring and ventilation. Rockford Fosgate specifies a 0.23 cubic-foot sealed enclosure or a 0.65 cubic-foot vented enclosure; enclosure volumes are gross internal volumes before driver and port displacement.
