The Rockford Fosgate M1D4-10 is a 10-inch, dual 4-ohm marine subwoofer designed to add dedicated low-frequency output to boat and powersports audio systems. Its white grille and integrated Color Optix RGB LED lighting complement marine installations that need both sound and illumination. The Element Ready construction is intended for environments exposed to water spray and UV light.

This subwoofer is suited to system builders who want bass reinforcement without using a conventional car-audio-only driver in an open-air marine environment. It handles 300 watts RMS and 1,200 watts peak, providing a practical match for an appropriately powered mono or multichannel amplifier. Its 91.5 dB sensitivity and 34 Hz free-air resonance support strong bass output in a correctly designed enclosure.

The M1D4-10 uses a dual voice coil design and a built-in VersaSwitch for simplified impedance selection. With the switch, the subwoofer can be configured for a 2-ohm or 8-ohm final load, helping match the driver to compatible amplifier channels. This avoids the need for conventional series or parallel jumpers at the subwoofer terminals.

Color Optix RGB LEDs illuminate the grille area and can be integrated into a Rockford Fosgate Color Optix lighting system. The included Color Optix harness supports connection, while the PMX-RGB controller is sold separately for app-based color and pattern control. LED operation requires a 9 to 16 volt supply and a recommended 1-amp fuse.

The M1D4-10 can be used in sealed, vented, or infinite-baffle applications when the enclosure and filtering are appropriate. Rockford Fosgate publishes a 1.1 cubic foot sealed enclosure recommendation and a 1.45 cubic foot vented recommendation. It is a useful upgrade path for a marine system with full-range speakers that needs more low-end weight and impact.

Design & Installation

The M1D4-10 combines an injection-molded polypropylene cone with UV protection, a Santoprene rubber surround, linear synthetic fiber blend spiders, and a 1.95-inch four-layer voice coil. Its 100% UV-stable ASA frame and grille, marine-grade brass terminals, insulated silicone tinsel leads, and vented motor with water-repelling mesh are designed for marine use. A fixed Sport grille is included.

Plan for an 8.9-inch cutout, 4.23-inch mounting depth, and 11-inch overall diameter. For a sealed installation, Rockford Fosgate specifies 1.1 cubic feet total internal volume; its vented design uses 1.45 cubic feet total internal volume with a 3-inch by 9.5-inch port. Use an active 80 to 100 Hz low-pass crossover at 12 dB per octave, and use an infrasonic filter for vented or infinite-baffle applications.
