The Rockford Fosgate P3D4-10 is a 10-inch dual voice coil subwoofer designed to add controlled low-frequency output to a vehicle audio system. Its dual 4-ohm voice coils provide wiring flexibility for matching a compatible mono or multi-channel amplifier. It is suited to listeners building a dedicated bass system or upgrading a factory system with an enclosure and external amplification.

With a 500-watt RMS power rating, the P3D4-10 is intended for systems that need substantial bass capability without moving to a larger subwoofer size. The 10-inch format can be a practical fit where cargo space is limited but a purpose-built enclosure is still possible. Its published frequency response extends from 28 Hz to 250 Hz.

An anodized aluminum cone and aluminum dustcap provide a rigid moving surface intended to maintain its shape under demanding operation. The Santoprene surround supports cone movement, while the dual-spider design and venting help manage heat around the motor assembly. The 2.5-inch, four-layer voice coil is built around an aluminum former.

The P3D4-10 can be used in either sealed or vented enclosures, allowing the enclosure choice to shape the system's bass character and packaging needs. Rockford Fosgate specifies a 0.59 cubic-foot sealed enclosure for its optimum sealed recommendation. Its optimum vented recommendation is 1.40 cubic feet tuned to 40 Hz.

For amplifier matching, this subwoofer uses two 4-ohm voice coils that may be wired for either a 2-ohm or 8-ohm final load when using one subwoofer. Select an amplifier whose stable impedance and RMS output are appropriate for the chosen wiring configuration. A low-pass crossover in the 80-100 Hz range is recommended in the owner's manual for subwoofer use.

Design & Installation

The P3D4-10 uses a hybrid StampCast basket, anodized aluminum cone and dustcap, Santoprene surround, dual spiders, and an aluminum voice-coil former. Its motor structure incorporates spider venting to help cool the assembly during operation. The supplied painted aluminum trim ring provides a finished appearance around the mounting area.

Allow for a 9.125-inch mounting cutout and 6.18 inches of mounting depth before selecting an enclosure. The optimum sealed enclosure is 0.59 cubic feet gross internal volume, while the optimum vented enclosure is 1.40 cubic feet gross internal volume with one 4-inch by 14-inch port. For vented systems, the owner's manual recommends a subsonic or infrasonic filter; use a rigid, airtight enclosure and account for driver and port displacement in final box design.
