The PreSonus Quantum HD 2 is a desktop USB-C audio interface for recording microphones, instruments, line-level sources, and digital audio with a computer or compatible mobile device. It provides a 20-input, 24-output workflow with up to 32-bit/192 kHz conversion for project-studio recording, production, and monitoring. Its compact format suits creators who need flexible I/O without moving to a rackmount interface.

Two digitally controlled analog MAX-HD microphone preamps provide up to 75 dB of gain for microphones that need substantial clean gain. The interface supports balanced mic and line connections through its rear combo inputs, while two front-panel instrument inputs are intended for passive guitar and bass. Auto Gain can set an input level automatically for a selected microphone or instrument source.

The Quantum HD 2 combines detailed conversion specifications with a custom low-latency driver design for recording and playback workflows. Its microphone inputs are rated at 116 dB dynamic range, while the main and line outputs are rated at 123 dB dynamic range. A front-panel encoder handles monitor level, headphone level, input gain, and menu navigation.

Guitarists can connect directly to the two front instrument inputs, which were co-developed with Fender engineers. Two dedicated re-amp outputs let recorded dry tracks be sent from a DAW to external amplifiers or effects for additional tone-shaping and re-recording. This makes the interface practical for tracking direct guitar, refining amp sounds later, and integrating hardware pedals.

For system expansion, the Quantum HD 2 includes dual optical ADAT input and output ports, S/PDIF I/O, and MIDI I/O via the included DB-9 breakout cable. Balanced main and line outputs support monitor speakers and additional outboard routing, while the headphone output provides a dedicated monitoring connection. Hardware registration includes a perpetual Fender Studio Pro software license, and Universal Control provides software-based control and metering.

Key Features

  • 20x24 USB-C I/O: Supports expanded recording and playback routing.
  • MAX-HD Preamps: Two mic preamps offer up to 75 dB gain.
  • Auto Gain: Automatically sets recording gain for compatible input sources.
  • Fender-Co-Developed Inputs: Two front instrument inputs suit guitar and bass.
  • Dedicated Re-Amp Outputs: Routes DAW tracks to external amps and effects.
  • Digital Expansion: ADAT, S/PDIF, and MIDI support broader studio connectivity.

Design & Installation

The Quantum HD 2 uses a compact black desktop enclosure with a front-panel illuminated push encoder, input controls, metering display, instrument inputs, re-amp outputs, and a headphone jack. Its rear panel places the combo mic/line inputs, balanced outputs, optical digital connections, USB-C port, power connection, and DB-9 breakout connection in one location. The interface is designed for direct access to tracking and monitoring controls from the desktop.

Connect the included external power supply, then use the supplied 1.5 m USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the interface to a compatible host device. Connect microphones or line sources to the rear combo inputs, passive instruments to the front inputs, and powered monitor speakers to the balanced main outputs. Install Universal Control for driver, firmware, routing, and control functions; mobile use is class-compliant with supported iOS, iPadOS, and USB-C Android devices.
